Orchids
30 December 2006
A wonderful evening with dear friends! Marshall and Ginger and Kyle and I had a lovely meal and then played eight hands of Mah Jong—complete with all the giggles and jokes and fun that make memories. These beautiful orchids were a sweet gift from Marshall to Ginger. This photo is with no flash—I like the natural light. And I am loving my little three-legged alien attached to my camera! (Kyle coined that phrase to refer to my tiny little tripod.)

Bias Knit
28 December 2006
This photograph was never intended to be anything special. It was one of about six snapshots I took while shopping with Ginger at a local antique mall. We had a wonderful day–girlie luncheon, a trip to World Market, and then the afternoon at a marvelous antique mall. Our kind of day–and way too long in coming! We were certainly due for some dynamic duo time!
Toward the end of our tour through the antique mall, we came across this odd little woman’s suit–jacket and skirt–made like this photo shows, out of knitted, flat bias strips of an odd lightweight rayon stuff. Between the knitting and the bias strips, the garments were very stretchy, and although from any distance it looked like it was made of straw or raffia, it was actually very soft-handed and drapey.
It was quite the work of art, at any rate. I know very little about knitting, but I really cannot even imagine how you would go about making something like this. So, I was taking some close-ups as well as a couple of longer range shots to remember this little outfit by—and lo and behold, this one really came out cool! Interesting lighting, texture, and lines.

French Doors
27 December 2006
The doors have been in place for twenty-four hours and already I know they were worth every penny! What a joy not to have to struggle to let the dogs in and out. And on that note . . . it’s very funny watching them figure it all out. With the sliding door, the dogs’ noses would be right at the point where the door closed–all the way to the right. But, now, they’ll have to adjust to the fact that the French doors open in the middle. Cormac would bump into the wall everytime if we let him!
Anyway–the new doors are wonderful. We love them! Thanks again, Dad!
