Day Fourteen at Bristol

As I was headed up my stairs and into my living space this morning, my eye caught movement, and I quickly focused on this beautiful butterfly as it landed in one of my flower boxes and proceeded to feed.  I watched for a moment, then decided that perhaps I’d have time to run inside for my camera.  As it turned out, I not only had time for that, but I was able to shoot quite a few really lovely pictures that I’m really proud of.  They are available for viewing on my Flickr photo stream.  It was actually really hard to choose just one for the KRuMB.

Dirty White Chair

16 July 2007
…and once again, I feel caught up.
This is a dirty, white chair. I loved the hard lines created by the sunlight on the white; it’s a beautiful pattern.
Light on White
The photo in no way is indicative of my day, which was just as boring as most days are. Got up, went to work, went to the bar, went home, went to sleep. Somewhere in there, I took this photo of a dirty, white chair. Fabulous life, eh?
Cheers.

Nothing to See, Move Along

15 July 2007
For one complete day, I could not find my camera.
No photo today, move along. ;-)

Cheers.

Day Thirteen at Bristol

I cannot believe that after doing this for over six months, I have never titled a post, “Artemis.”  Well, not anymore.

It was a Monday—faxing and copies and errands, oh my!  I spent so much time out of the booth today, that when I finally came in and settled down, Artemis was instantly in my lap!  Now, she’s in the bed—patiently waiting for me to give up on the day and join her.  It won’t be long.  I am tired, but as I just began contemplating walking to the wash house to brush my teeth and such, it began to sprinkle rain.  And what was my delay in doing this fifth of a mile walk?  I was watering the plants, of course!

Anyway, Artemis looks as charming as ever on this lovely handmade quilt—-a gift to Kyle from his “Nonie” a number of years ago.   She made me one, too—which usually is what I bring with me, here, but for some reason this year, this is the one that made the trip.

Hoses

14 July 2007
Saturday. There was supposed be footy practice, but with only 3 confirmed attendees, I didn’t bother with the drive.  I should show more commitment, but it’s difficult to do when the temperature is already above 90 degrees F by 9 a.m. So, I opted for air-conditioned entertainment and went to see Ratatouille instead. Brilliant!
As Ratatouille ended and I turned on my phone, I received a phone call from the folks at the airport, so I had to run home and make some quick changes to a script I’d written for their sort. But, dammit, I wasn’t done with my air-conditioned entertainment, so I headed back out to No Frill’s Grill. That’s where I took this photo:
Hoses
The guys and gals that work this particular piece of modern machinery were at No Frill’s having some much needed nourishment. While there, Terrill paged me and wanted to know if I wished to join he and his son for the new Harry Potter movie. I did, and enjoyed the “wickedest movie ever” (according to young Kyle). Then back to No Frill’s for dinner and more beer. The fire truck was gone, but that was okay—I had my picture.
Cheers.

Friday the 13th

13 July 2007
I left the house this morning intending to photograph every 13 I came across. And so I did. Friday the 13th only comes along a few times a year, so why not treat it to a themed day, yeah? I took quite a few photos and you know what. Every damn one of them was a wretched piece. From my neighbour’s car that bears a 13 in the license plate to the neighbour down the street who’s house number contains a 13. I took a lot of photos of things with that theme in mind. Why then, does the only photo worthy of inclusion (well, truly it was simply the best; it’s not really worthy of inclusion either) have to be from work?
Friday the 13th
The gods are laughing.
Cheers.

Perpetual Calendar

12 July 2007
The only calendar I live by is this one:
Perpetual Calendar
This perpetual calendar hangs on the wall in our hall and each morning when I leave the room for the first time, I immediately update it. The simple activity keeps me attuned to the here and now.
The thing I love about it is that it will be a forever calendar; at least until some Pope (or other “important” figure decides to futz with it (like they did in 1582).
Oh and that intrusive little bit of wood in the upper right corner? That’s a boomerang made for me by a dear friend. It’s hand constructed of some rare and beautiful woods. Since boomerangs are designed to fly, this one has flown: once. It’s just to beautiful to risk breakage. I’d be absolutely gutted were something to happen to it.
I had neglected to take my camera with me when I left the house, so this was truly the only photo of the day. It happens.

Day Thirteen at Bristol

At one point this afternoon, while wishing for more customers, I glanced up toward the windows in the shoppe, and couldn’t help but exclaim, “what a beautiful shade of green!”  It was the time of day when the sun shines down through the leaves on the trees around us, and turns the world a bright, happy, Kermit-sort of green!  It made me smile and appreciate Mother Nature.

Sad, isn’t it?  When the only picture worth keeping from an entire day is of a piece of fabric?  <sigh>

Day Eleven at Bristol

Today was a multi-faceted day of odd jobs and many accomplishments.  I went to sleep early enough last night that I awoke before my alarm.  Breakfast, a quick visit to the glass studio to see how yesterday’s work turned out, and a walk to the parking lot to get my truck all happened pretty early.  I spent quite a while finally unpacking the last of what was living in my truck, re-arranging the stuff that will be living in the trailer while I’m here, and just generally finishing my moving in process.   Then there was a brief visit with our craft coordinator about some improvements I need to have done to the booth, and while I was there I got to meet PeaPod and her eleven (!) five-day-old puppies!  Afternoon saw some work in the workshop, and some general booth work—a couple of new fixtures, receiving and unpacking our new product made this week in California, and a little bit of computer time where I learned that my gmail account includes an instant messenging feature!  Tuna and cheese and crackers for lunch.  Later in the afternoon I did some outdoor booth work, Kat and Sean brought my finished laundry back to me, and then I rushed to get to the hardware store where Kelly had taken our fire extinguishers for their annual inspection tags before closing time.  And I got to chat with my mama on the way there.

On the way home, I was treated to another spectacular sunset, and this time I decided I wanted to photograph it over Lake Andrea—a little lake in a recreational park and complex in very nearby Pleasant Prairie.  I pulled into the park, drove to the parking lot, parked, walked across the street, set up my pretty shot, and . . . then realized I’d left the memory card for my camera in the laptop—back at the booth.

So, hopefully there will be another pretty sunset while I’m driving home past the lake.  But, tonight, instead we get a fire safety lesson!  We are required to have a fully inspected, working fire extinquisher on every floor of our building.  Since I live above my booth, I have two.  One of mine, was manufactured in 2001—it was too old to be inspected simply, and would have cost as much to bring up to code as it cost to purchase a new one.  So, a new one is what I have!  My photo is of Kelly’s, and all three of mine—the two I’ll place carefully where the fire marshall wants them, and the older one that I’ll probably put in the trailer to take home.  I’m told that for residential use there is no inspection required, and the old one will be just fine there.  But, in a business setting, there are all sorts of hoops to jump through to make the bureaucrats happy.  Incidentally, our fire marshall taught me years ago, that the best place for your fire extinguisher is as close to the door as possible, so you can grab it on the way out!

Fire is a much-dreaded f-word in any setting, but at a Renaissance Festival it’s a fear we take very seriously.  We might try to avoid playing by some societal rules now and then, but fire safety is practically a religion!
