Hogmanay
New Year’s Eve
This terribly blurry photo is the only photo I had time to think about taking on New Year’s Eve. And, actually, it was taken at about four a.m.—after the party! And, that probably says all that needs to be said about why it’s blurry. After the crowd was gone, and only three or four dear friends remained, I snapped this photo of the pile of glassware I’d already washed! Exciting, I know, but, hey . . . during the evening I was distracted from taking pictures! There were margaritas and wine glasses and scotch tastings and champagne. And packages tied up with string. And doorbells and sleigh bells and . . . <grin> these are a few of my favourite things!
As I write this now, a couple of days later, I look back very happily on a wonderful Hogmanay. The day was hectic and full of much last-minute preparation. I didn’t get quite as much done as I’d hoped, but I was dressed and ready for the party before eight o’clock. Ronnie delivered the margarita machine around 5:30 or so, and Mary and Donny stopped by about an hour later with the beautiful (and very tasty) bannocks. Terrill was our first official “guest,” which was perfect ’cause he brought the ice! And once the clock struck eight, the doorbell rang pretty constantly for an hour or so. A few early folks had to leave before midnight, but the toasting, kissing crowd numbered over forty! The total headcount that I can recreate as I sort through the memories, is 49! That’s a lot of wonderful people in this little house! But, as I looked around my living room and dining room, I saw so many faces that I cannot imagine my life without! Our lives are so rich with fabulous, incredible friends!
Allen was a great first footer, and the house blessing/beating was a blast. We had a beautiful fire in the fireplace which was nice, ’cause it was cold outside! The margarita machine was fun, the dogs were well-behaved, and from what I could tell, everyone seemed to have a good time. And, that’s the most important thing!
The only thing I would really change if I could, would be to have had everybody who reads The Daily KRuMB, here with us that night, too!
But, all things considered, I think we can call the Tenth Annual Hogmanay Party/Fifteenth Annual New Year’s Eve Party at the Caruthers’ house—-a success!
