Snollygosters & Super Bowl Victuals

1 February 2009
In a wonderful happenstance of scheduling, the world – the U.S.A in specific – get a break from the snollygosters of Washington, D.C. and get to concentrate completely on the ancient, tribal ritual of trial by combat. The Superbowl ® is played on the first Sunday of February and in election years it’s a welcome respite.
This year, like most years, I don’t really care who wins or loses, but the ritual still calls and I watch the brightly-coloured warriors perform their intricate time-honoured dances.
At the same time that the warriors are entering combat, the spectators are devouring the spoils from recent hunt-and-kill sessions at the local grocery market. Here are the spoils of my most recent hunt.

Kelly Takes a Picture of Me Taking a Picture of Kelly

31 January 2009
As a last minute decision, we went to the Rahr Brewery today taking advantage of one of the last free weekends we will have until Summer starts. We’re on that downhill roll toward Scarborough Faire and between my work schedule, the new soccer season (which starts on the 2nd) and Marita Beth’s costume-creation commitments and, of course, Scarborough Faire, weekends will become a rare, precious commodity. So, with all that in mind, we went to the Rahr tagging Kelly, Bert, Joe, Starr, Troy & Alex to join us. What a great time…and that Iron Thistle is every bit as good as I had recalled – oh yes.

Wherein a Map Serves as a Hint

30 January 2009
When I went out to the mail today, I retrieved a small package along with the regular bills & junk.
Inside that package was a map. The map, photographed here, is a Beer Drinkers Guide to Colorado and came from a very dear friend of mine that lives in Colorado.
I think it’s a hint.
The Map
Here’s hoping I can put that map to use sometime this summer.
Thanks, David!

Cheers.

Wine Bottle

29 January 2009
As I was setting up to take the photo of this wine bottle for my records, I accidentally depressed the shutter button and got this:

I preferred it to any other shot I took. Accidents will happen.
Cheers.

St. Brigid’s Day

I have stayed up way too late, but it’s a quarter day, and I’d stay up all night if I thought I could make it through tomorrow! No photos happened during the day, but this is our kitchen window in the middle of the night!

Kelly Presents: Iron Thistle

Kelly Presents Iron Thistle

31 January 2009

A free Saturday—guess where we went?  Yep, the Rahr!  This is Kelly, sporting her sassy new haircut, and doing her best Tour Guide/sexy Librarian imitation, and showing off her half-drunk pint (the pint is half-drunk, not the Kelly . . . ;-) ) of Rahr’s new Iron Thistle brew.  It is the best thing they’ve produced, yet, and that’s saying a lot!  We actually shot this photo twice to make sure we had the Rahr Brewing logo facing front! )  :-)

Kelly and Bert (by bicycle) and Joe and Starr and their boys met us there.  We had a wonderful visit with them, and then we all trucked over to Fuzzy’s Taco’s for some yummy fish tacos to round out the afternoon.  We were entertained during lunch by Alex‘s antics!

Back at home, Kyle and I hunkered down to relax with some mindless television.  And laundry. ;-)

Good to Be Home

Good to Be Home

30 January 2009

My trip home was even easier than I ever hope for—plenty of space on the flights and I actually took an earlier flight than originally planned. Not sure that bodes well for the airline industry, but it’s no surprise right now, either.

Kyle was able to pick me up from the airport and take me back to his office. With the extremely small amount of sleep I’d had, I opted to sit with him, in his office while he worked the afternoon, rather than drive myself anywhere. It gave me time to do email and play with Facebook—simultaneously the coolest thing ever, and the biggest time-waster ever! But, then, if you’re reading this, you are probably also addicted to Facebook! ;-)

When we finally left the office, we stopped by to see Trista and give her the little gift I’d picked up for her.  From St Augustine, it’s a shot glass for her collection picturing an alligator and reading, “Send More Tourists . . . the last ones were great!”  I was amused.

We went home, unloaded, and enjoyed some wind down time.  I even contemplated a very early bedtime.  But, it wasn’t long before I got my second wind and we decided to go out for some TexMex!   Always a good idea, and pretty much a tradition on my first night back home after being anywhere other than Texas!

When we got home from dinner, it was bedtime.  I snapped my photo of Artemis and Kyle playing  as we got ready for bed.  The two of them rarely play, and in fact while I’m away, Kyle hardly even sees the cat.  So, this was good for both of them!  And now that I’m home, whatever room I’m in—-she’s in!  I think she missed me.

It’s good to be home.
