Monday . . . or Friday?

4 May 2009

Whether it’s a Monday or a Friday—today is rough!

Monday morning: paperwork, reports, inventory organization, ordering product for East Wind Games, making phone calls . . . general organization of the week. Mondays are not my favourite days. I wonder what happened to the days when I had Mondays “off!”

I scheduled two customer appointments for today—one in the morning, one in the afternoon. I never do that sort of thing on Mondays during faire . . . but Ken was here from Minnesota and this was a rare opportunity with him. And, this project in the works for Steve Z—I needed a fitting before continuing. So, all that made the day seem a little like a Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday!

And, tomorrow I’m back at faire for Kid’s Days—so it feels like a Friday.

Is it any wonder I’m confused?

Oh, and forgetful . . . no photo!

Blue and Gold Chenille Brocade Question

Blue and Gold Chenille Brocade

3 May 2009

Oh, shucks. I took this photo on Sunday . . . I know I took it for a reason . . . can’t remember the reason. I think I’m supposed to find out if this fabric is still available. Oh, for a better memory!

Pendragon Bird

Pendragon Bird

2 May 2009

Springtime on fairesite—you never know what adventures are in store. This year, we have a couple of small birds–variety unknown—who have made their nest in the corner of the Pendragon Costumes booth. We have watched them come and go for weeks with building materials, and now we hear the fervent cries of baby birds wanting food! This photo is of one of the adult birds who busily tends the babies.

Oranges at BlackFinn

7 May 2009
I came home to my wife’s growling tummy. It’s still faire season, so she’s working her fingers to the bone and I’m, well, I’m working, too. So, no grocery shopping in anything resembling a timely manner. We went out for dinner…again. Instead, however, of hitting the normal haunts we visited a newly opened joint in the Highlands of Arlington. The BlackFinn American Saloon on Bagpiper Way. It’s a nice enough place. It was loud, the food was decent if not spectacular & fairly priced. Eighteen different beers on draught including the delectable Guinness 250 and their "own" BlackFinn Ale. The waitstaff, while enthusiastic, young and attractive were not very well informed nor well-trained. I will, however, return to BlackFinn – possibly even regularly.
Orange Slices
These are orange slices that she brought out with our BlackFinn Ale. I don’t generally put orange in my ales, but Marita Beth did so and it definitely changed the taste of the drink…not necessarily for the better; but that’s my opinion and nothing more.
Cheers.

Beer & Barcelona

6 May 2009
Wednesday afternoon and into the evening, I watched the Chelsea v Barcelona match. What a cracking match. It was such a delicious event that I watched it two more times that day. Chelsea did an admirable job preventing Barcelona from playing their game; but in the end it wasn’t enough. So, of the two teams I wanted in the final, I got one with my beloved Arsenal crashing out the day before.
Beer & Barcelona
The photo was taken with my new phone and certainly not the best photo in the world. But, it pretty much adequately encapsulates the important parts of my day.
Cheers.

Get Out of Hell Free

5 May 2009
Some incredibly talented and very sweet ladies have left Scarborough Faire mid-way through the run. But, before they left I snapped up their latest merchandising doowidget
Get Out of Hell Free
One can never have too many laniards and who knows, maybe some day a "Get Out of Hell Free" card may come in handy. :-)
Cheers.

The USB

4 May 2009
My new phone arrived with the typical wall-charger but sans any other method of keeping the phone fully juiced. So, I poked around in the internet and found a USB charger. That is absolutely perfect for me as a traveller. I no longer have to worry about making sure I brought along my wall charger, because I almost always have my laptop. I just plug the USB into the computer and let the computer charge my phone.
USB Charger
I also bought a cigarette adapter for the car that has a USB port rather than a connection wire. So, I can use the same charger in my car or with my laptop. USB has changed the world.
Cheers.

Squeak with Wine & Cheese

3 May 2009
Another faire day and the 5th weekend of faire comes to a close. 7 more faire days to go. Here’s a fervent hope that the sales pick up, for up to and including this weekend the sales and overall faire attendance has been considerably poor.
So poor in fact, that I let my manager go today so that he could enjoy the wine tasting that our good fellow Glenn is doing down at the Cat & Fiddle pub near the list.
Some hours after he came back, Marita Beth & I ambled out to go to the Cat & Fiddle as MB had not yet been there. Along the way we picked up Squeak & Iris. The four of us sat for a short while waiting for Glenn’s last class to end. Marita Beth went back to the shop, then Iris had to leave so Squeak and I sat and chatted (quietly) while listening to Donal Hinely play and sing. This is Squeak, a dear friend.
Another Friend
When Glenn was done with the class, he brought over some aged Gruyere, some cracked pepper organic crackers, a Cabernet and a Gewurztraminer and sat and joined us. Seriously can it get much better? Marita Beth came back just in time for the last of the Gewurztraminer but Iris didn’t return. It was a wonderful way to wind down the day…and weekend.
Cheers.

Allyson & the Impending Spite & Malice

2 May 2009
A hot, humid and, at times, very rainy day. But, in supplement to the post from the 30th, full of great friends. This delectable creature is one such friend
allyson
Transplanted from Wisconsin by way of Houston & Chicago, she has finally landed in my neck of the woods. So, especially during faire season, I get to spend hours with this camera-shy beauty. In penance to my taking of this photo, I was forced to spend a couple of hours in her company as she taught me the card game, Spite & Malice. My gods what punishment! :-)
Cheers.

Waitin' on Some Friends

30 April 2009
Both old and new, I have some of the best friends any one man could possibly ask for. These folk give and give and give with no expectations. I can only hope that I return their kindness with – at a minimum – similar kindness and giving.
Waitin' On a Friend
This is my best friend. She is sitting at a table at a restaurant in Arlington waiting for two relatively new friends, Jorge & Ron, to join us for food, beer & planning. We had a wonderful evening and I can’t thank any single one of these friends adequately. But…thank you! All of you!
Cheers.
