Comfort

Comfort

1 May 2009
Happy Beltane!

“Tra—la!   It’s May . . . the lusty month of May!”

Those words from Lerner and Loewe’s Camelot never fail to cross my mind on the first of May!

This May Day was a muggy one! I worked all day on finishing up all the little projects for the weekend and Kyle and I and the pups headed to faire around 7:30 p.m. We did our set up and enjoyed a bottle of wine with Marcus, and finally, when the wonderful appliance in my photo had done it’s job adequately enough, we went to bed in an almost cool, almost dry room. Without this little air conditioner we could not possibly have been comfortable enough to sleep well, and nobody wants to deal with a tired, cranky Caruthers couple at faire! ;-)

Spring Flowers Love the Rain

Spring Flowers Love the Rain

30 April 2009

We’ve had quite a bit of rain, lately, and it’s finally looking like spring around here! This beautiful field of flowers is located on Sandy Lane, on my way to Stephen’s house. I took him to the doctor this morning, where he got a clean bill of health, and was told his recovery is coming along well. On the way home afterwards, I stopped and took this photo.

I worked during the afternoon, and then, in the evening, Kyle and I met with these two fellows from The Blazing Sun crew, for dinner. Ron and Jorge are generously helping us with the plans to make a market cart for East Wind Games!

The Mothership and Great News for Galveston

Mothership

29 April 2009

Not much else going on this week, so I thought I’d concentrate my writing today on my beloved island of Galveston. I am guilty of not saying much about it lately, but that doesn’t mean its woes are far from my mind. Every week I see more new photos of the devastation and lingering aftermath of Hurricane Ike. Springtime in Galveston hasn’t been nearly as green as it should be.

But, this week there is a little bit of good news.

Every little bit of publicity that can be given to the situation in Galveston, the better it will be for the folks there to get the funding necessary for them to bounce back!

My really frustratingly bad photo today, is of the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, taken while I was driving across the brand new Center Street bridge. Pitifully, this is the best of the three shots I took! I was out today, only because Stephen, out of the hospital for just a few days, was feeling stir crazy and needed out of his house. I scooped him up and ran a couple of errands and grabbed some lunch. The stadium is huge and really does look like the Mothership has landed—the darned thing is actually visible from downtown Fort Worth! The new bridge is lovely, and the landscape surrounding the building project is improving at a very fast pace. The whole “imminent domain for private gain-thing” is an issue worth debating, but it is rather nice to have had those ugly old strip centers and falling-down storefronts disappear.

Sleeping on the Fuzzy Pink Pillow

White Cat on Pink Pillow . . . Again

28 April 2009

Familiar? I know . . . but it’s all I managed to shoot today. And I’m going to bed early again tonight . . . I’m not going to scout around the house searching for photo opportunities.

At least it’s proof of the fact that the pink fuzzy pillow really is her favourite!

The Jack

29 April 2009
You’ve gleaned by now, not the very least by seeing my inclusion of music at the end of most every post, that music is very essential to my well-being. Some folk, like my wife, can work in silence for hours even days at a time. I, however, find music so critical that the very first thing I do each morning when I arrive in the small cell in which I work and setup my laptop is plug the iPod in to one side of the laptop and the headphones to the other.
This is the headphone jack.
The Jack
Exciting, right?
Cheers.

Foggy Drive

28 April 2009
One of those photos that worked SO much better in my head than in execution. And, since I was driving, I couldn’t just re-frame, change the settings and try again. Oh well.
It was a lovely, foggy morning even if I can’t prove it by photograph.
Foggy Morning
Cheers.

Peppers

27 April 2009
During faire season we have a tendency to let most other aspects of our life fall to the wayside – important things like making sure that there is adequate food in the house to feed the twain of us, the two dogs and the cat. We failed this year. So, when I called my wife to let her know I was on my way home from the Monday work world, we discussed, naturally, food and the lack of it. So, I bribed her with a trip to Abuelo’s if she would accompany me to the grocery store. It worked.
We had a lovely dinner where I engaged her in discussing with me the mechanical aspects of a game I’m designing (card game, not PS2 or xBox game). Three enchiladas, chips, salsa and a margarita each and we were primed for the grocery store.
We didn’t buy any of these, but I liked the look
Peppers
maybe I’ll get some next time.
Cheers.
