Flags Over Breakfast

Flags over Breakfast

20 July 2009

Monday’s only photograph. This is my view from the wee balcony on the front of my booth, looking out over the lazy Monday Morning Breakfast on site.   I love that this weekly event takes place right outside my home, here.  Waking up to the sounds of breakfast is a good thing.

I wish I could say it was a lazy day for me! I had breakfast, and then went to the bank in Racine, and ran a couple of other errands. Then, I came back to site, held a Can-Can rehearsal, paid some bills online and by phone and decided I needed to make another trip to the bank. I scooped up Susabella on my way off site, and after the bank, we visited a thrift store and a fabric store, and were able to hunt and kill everything I’ll need to make two more Can-Can skirts! I’m grateful that three of my dancers already have their skirts from the last time I choreographed a Can-Can, and apparently, they love them enough to carry them with them on the road! :-)

After the shopping, I picked up my laundry, and Susabella and I enjoyed a great meal at El Sarape. I worked on the Can-Can choreography, did some writing, and stayed up way later than I’d planned. I really need to quit that!

Unused Strip

19 July 2009
Lazy day at home that started, as Sunday’s must, with a Bloody Mary. That was followed by lounging about catching up on some backlogged DVR television and watching bad movies. Late in the day, the TV warned me that a Severe Thunderstorm warning had just been issued for my county. Surprised, I looked outside at the bright blue cloudless sky, shrugged and put my football kit on. When I left for my football match it was a bright and sunshiny 96°F. When I got in the car it started raining…hard while the sun remained smiling in the nearly cloudless sky. By the time I got to the fields the rain had stopped but the humidity had kicked up immensely and the soccer association had locked the gates. Yep. Game cancelled on account of rain. I got a text message about that time from a co player Jill that read simply “No Game = No Frills Grill.” So, that’s what I did. I met Jill & several other teammates/friends at No Frills Grill for dinner and drinks. When the good times were done, I went home and took a photo of the unused football strip.
Diadora Strip
Cheers.

Brett & Jill

18 July 2009
Brett, Jill & I went to Lone Star Park today to watch the horsies run around the track. I’ve not been to the races in 20+ years and had a great time. I bet on three races, and won on two of them. Not big bets, but I came away from the day in the black.
Brett, Jill & a Race Form
That’s Brett & Jill. Brett is analyzing – too deeply for his own good – the daily race form. It was a good time and I will certainly go again…when the weather is cooler.

Cheers.

Bristol II Bloody Mary Sunday

Bristol II Bloody Mary Sunday

19 July 2009

Second in a series. This is my half-consumed bloody mary this morning. Maron worked today and enjoyed the tradition with us, and we added Paul to the list of bloody mary-takers today.

It was another fabulous day at the Bristol Faire! We did well again, surely due to another great weather day. I am aware that some of my friends would rather have the warmer, sunnier days, but from the perspective of Pendragon Costumes—clouds and cool temperatures are our friends!

I worked very late this evening, getting inventory and numbers done and off to Nicole so she can squeeze as much work as she can into her few hours before leaving for ComicCon. As I write this, now, it is nearing two a.m. and the needle on my thermometer is dipping below sixty degrees. I have a blanket across my lap, and I’m wearing a long-sleeved turtleneck under a fleece jacket. I have decided to wait until morning to shower!

Karly and her Cow

Karly and her Cow

18 July 2009
Happy Birthday, Shannon!

Proving once again, that the weather is one of the biggest factors in our lives at faire, today was gorgeous and sales were great. At least in our booth, we were busy and very happy, all day long.

After a great faire day, we were ready to be waited on and to have our food served to us in a timely fashion. We also had a very large group, due to the fact that this day was Shannon’s natal day, and just about everybody wanted to join us! So, off to Red Robin we went, where we know the service is good and they can easily accomodate a giant pile of people. (The fact that they serve a pretty darned tolerable margarita doesn’t hurt any either!)

The young lady in my photo is Delaenya’s teenage daughter, Karly.
She and I have a very fun bond and I am loving watching her grow into a beautiful person. The cow was a prize won by George out of one of those claw machines in the restaurant vestibule. I was amused.

Pink

Pink

17 July 2009

I was so tired by the time I took this photo that I didn’t even notice how bad it was. But, it’s the only one I took all day. Busy day of sewing and weekend preparations. The weather continues to bless us—rain today, but not tomorrow, it appears! Yay!

This, by the way, is my wonderful, little pink computer—an Acer Aspire One—that I bought just before our trip to the UK in December. I love it. It fits in my purse! And . . . it’s pink. What more does a girl need?

An Illinois Summer Garden

A Summer Garden in Illinois

16 July 2009

After a day of mundane workshop set-up and simple sewing, the evening was a time of birthday celebration. Two of our dear friends, George and Shannon, were guests of honour at a gathering this evening at the beautiful home of longtime patrons-cum-friends. George hit the semi-centennial mark in April, and Shannon’s 50th birthday will be Saturday. Both much beloved, and both thinking the party tonight was for the other one, until we all arrived!

The home where this party was held made me terribly homesick. The backyard patio these folks have behind their lovely home, makes for a great photo background. And, in regards to the gardens and the big pond, it was so like my home in New York, that I simply couldn’t help being homesick.  I have jokingly started telling people that I’m backwards! Although I live in the south, now, I will hope to be retiring to the north!   My heart lies with the willow trees and the croaking frogs and the cattails.  Who knew thirteen years ago, that Wisconsin and Illinois would so be able to scratch the New York itch?
