Kristen and her Fabulous Peach Creme Fresche Pie

Kristen and Peach Creme Fresche Pie!

22 August 2009

Having stayed up way too late, and slept way too late, I skipped breakfast this morning. That was okay, though, ’cause our energy levels were high. The weather was cool and crisp and wonderful, and we were fairly busy all day.

At one point in the late morning, I had just uttered the words, “I’m hungry, but I want breakfast, not lunch” and what appears? Kristen and this amazing work of art from her kitchen! She had baked us a peach creme fresche pie! Just ’cause she loves us! A more perfect breakfast I cannot imagine! And delicious beyond belief. I don’t even really like peaches, and I thought this was magnificent. Imagine the state of nirvana I will achieve next weekend, when she brings us strawberry rhubarb pie!

Cold August Night

Cold August Night

21 August 2009

The day was spent dodging raindrops. Not as much work got done as I’d have wished. And now, having realized I had no photo, yet—I decided to document this unseasonably cool August night. Brrr…

Feathers & Dolls, Bad Movies & Good Wine

25 August 2009
Early day home, I guess to make up for yesterday’s really late day home. My Netflix shipment arrived, so I had dinner while watching two horrible (yet deliciously campy fun) movies and sipping a delightful rioja. Even with all that, I still managed a fairly early retreat to bed for some much needed rest.
Then, back out of bed to take a photo. Bothers me that this happens so frequently. I’m surrounded by photo ops all day every day, yet just can’t quite make it happen sometimes.
Feathers & Dolls
Closeup of some feathers on a brown peacock ornament gifted to me some time back. In the background you can just make out some Wee Peeples and an iconic red telephone booth.
Cheers.

Desk

24 August 2009
Got home very late from a PubGuys scouting/drinking session. During my outing my wife had called me no less than four times and texted me at least once. She really needed me to find something for her and I wasn’t at home. I wasn’t at home at my normal time. I wasn’t at home an hour after normal. Nor two. Nor three I got home perhaps four to four and half hours later than typical. She was understandably worried and, I imagine, miffed.
I called her as soon as I walked in the door. After getting the worried, “where the hell have you been” bits out of the way, she asked me to find something for her on, around or near her desk.
desk
Right.
This desk is her workzone during faire season and this year when faire was over, it sat unused while she prepared her departure for Bristol. I’m sure the things she need are there, I just can’t find them.
Cheers.

Pretty in Pink

23 August 2009
Early morning breakfast with Da & Mum after which they left to start the 5+ hour drive home. I, however, went to the movies. I have been looking forward to District 9 since I first heard of it nearly a year ago. I was thrilled with the movie. It is a simply astonishing movie with moral that deserves a telling.
After the movie I stopped at NFG for lunch and took this photo of some flowering bushes they have out front.
Pink & Green
I have no idea what they are, but it’s a very pretty pink.
Cheers.

My parents came up from San Antonio today and I guess that visit trumped my photograph.

My first day back in the corporate saddle and all I could find to photograph was a slim packet of gum.

Back Home via MKE & STL

19 August 2009
Time to go home. My wonderful trip to the hinterlands of Wisconsin is over and back to the land of corporate cubes go I. First stop: the General Mitchell Milwaukee Airport (MKE). The flight was oversold to STL, but I stayed the course and boarded the flight as necessary.
MKE Concourse C
Just prior to boarding, I took this photo of Concourse C in MKE.
The flight to STL was uneventful. A short layover and a beer later, I was on a Boeing 757 headed to DFW where Terrill picked me up. Picked up the dogs (thank you, Ronnie!) and went home. It was a long day and sadly, it won’t end with a kiss and a cuddle with my wife.
Cheers.

Work, Lake Geneva & Hibachi

18 August 2009
My trip into ORD to work didn’t go quite as planned, but I did get to talk with the folks I needed to talk to. I suppose a 10 minute speech rather than a 1 hour training is better than nothing, but I gave what I could. The positive side to that is that I was able to get back to my vacation – and my wife – that much quicker. I got back to the site just slightly after lunch time, but before everyone else had eaten. So, Marita Beth & I arranged to meet Kelly & John at El Sarape in Kenosha. When lunch was finished, MB and I made a snap decision to visit Lake Geneva. She swears I’ve been there before, I swear I haven’t – now I have. We did some walking, some shopping, some soaking up local resort flavor and we even managed to squeeze in two pubs. What a delightful afternoon. Just as we were starting to think hungry thoughts, we got a call indicating that the dinner gathering would be at the local Hibachi/Sushi restaurant in Kenosha. Hooray for Hibachi! I tried to capture the cook in action, but most shots did not come out well. This is the best I got.
Hibachi in Kenosha
But, this photo will spark my memory and allow me to recall the excellent company and wonderful dinner I had on this, the final night of my vacation.
Cheers.
