My Shoe Lace

How droll. A photo of my shoe. At least it’s a comfortable shoe.

Tuesday Before Faire

6 October 2009

My husband is sick.  He’s been coming down with something since Saturday, and probably should have stayed home from work yesterday.  But, he didn’t.  And, today, his body really gave him very little choice.  He is coughing so much it prevents sleep. So, he’s exhausted—and he just feels awful.

I tried to finish up all my packing and loading, while being as attentive to him as I could.  I wanted to be right with him, but I leave in the morning for TRF and I simply had to pay attention to all that means.  Kyle is pretty easy-going when he’s sick, though.  Mostly he just wants to be left alone.  So, I even went out and ran a couple of errands.  I’d give anything to be able to make him well, but, there is so little I can do, that sometimes it’s hard to watch.

I did manage to make us a couple of mean scrambled egg sandwiches for dinner, but alas, I did not manage to take a photograph.  <sigh>

Opportunity

Couch from the Universe

5 October 2009

“Ask and ye shall receive.”
The Law of Attraction.

Law of Attraction says, “That which is like unto itself is drawn.”

As anyone who has visited our home in the last few years knows, we do not have a couch.  Instead, we have two marvelously comfortable, extra-wide, overstuffed, scroll-armed, multi-cushioned, custom-made chairs.  I found them in one of my fabric/upholstery places a number of years ago, and fell in love.  I put them on layaway briefly because they were not cheap.  But, they were worth every penny, and we adore them.  Lately, however, we have been thinking thoughts of it being time to go back to having a sofa.

In fact, Kyle said to me very recently—since I returned home from Wisconsin—that he wished we could sit next to each other like on a couch.  ” Is it time?” I asked him.  He responded in the affirmative.

Today, I stopped to visit a fabric store and discovered in its place, a furniture and accessories showroom having a going out of business sale.  And, not ten steps inside their front door, I spotted this sofa.  The fabric exactly matches our chairs.  The arm shape is the same.

Call it what you will . . . it seems to me the universe is providing us with exactly what we wanted!  I think it might have to become our new sofa . . . let’s see how well we do at TRF this weekend!  Keep your fingers crossed for us, and feel free to contribute to the sofa fund! ;-)

Gal Pals in Ohio 2009

Gal Pals in Ohio 2009

4 October 2009

Technically, I took no photos today. The morning was full of packing and focused on getting the most quality time out of my girlfriends that I could. We had breakfast, then lunch, and in a whirlwind of exchanging books and email addresses and making plans for next year’s gathering, we went outside to have our photo taken. Charlie enthusiastically agreed to do the picture taking so we could all be in the photos, and once I was on the road toward the airport, I never thought about the camera again. I got home, was met at the airport by both Kyle and Kelly, and we went straight home. Kyle is not feeling well and he and Kelly had only recently had lunch, so going home sounded best.

I was tired, and had my eye on a busy day on Monday. Kelly knew she had the drive back to TRF and a hard week down there. Kyle was sick. So, our house was quiet early, and I didn’t dig the camera out of where it was packed . . . besides, anything I photographed would have been anti-climactic after my wonderful weekend.

So, thanks to Charlie for the photo today. And, thanks to my TCU Gal Pals for an outstanding mini-vacation I wouldn’t have missed for the world.

PubGuys on the Board

3 October 2009
Kelly, who arrived to stay at the house last night, and I went to the Rahr Brewery this morning. I’ve waxed about the Rahr often enough, but I truly can’t visit it often enough. It’s an amazing thing to do on a Saturday afternoon provided you: a) like beer b) don’t mind crowds and c) can deal with whatever the temperature is as it’s an open warehouse with no heating or air conditioning. Today, the temperature was in the mid 70s F with a chance of rain. In short, perfect. We met Bert & Connie (Bert’s bio teacher) up there and really enjoyed ourselves.
When it came time, as it always does, for me to run off to the “beer return” room, I found myself staring at a bulletin board full of business cards and one empty pushpin. I used that empty pushpin and stuck a couple of PubGuys business cards up there with the rest.

PubGuys Pop Filter

1 October 2009
The PubGuys recorded tonight at Ye Olde Bull & Bush in Ft. Worth. One of the standards by which other Pubs in the area are judged. It’s a small, intimate and endearing pub with a great selection of beer both draught and bottled. I truly love this pub. The PubGuys show was rife with contention and varying viewpoints, and when edited will be a truly excellent show, I believe. Both Terrill (the primary editor) and I (the secondary editor) are sick right now, so a delay is likely to occur in the editing of both this show and the previous show. In fact, we are even taking a week off of recording while we recover. But, we’ll be back in full swing before too long.
PubGuys Pop Filter
This is a photo of Mike (right) and Curtis (of the Haines Agency and our sponsor) with one of the homemade pop filters connected to Terrill’s mic. We have found that these homemade filters are actually much better for our purposes than the commercial filters that can be purchased for considerably more cost.
Cheers.

Dazzling

30 September 2009
An impromptu dinner out for Marita Beth’s last night here before a trip to Columbus found us at Chili’s. I wasn’t overly hungry having had a late lunch, so I had a margarita and some chips and queso. Marita Beth, however, didn’t have a lunch and was quite hungry so had her favourite meal at Chili’s. While waiting for the dinner to arrive, I snapped this quick shot of her bedazzled wrist.

The New Shawl

29 September 2009
MB came home recently with this shawl of many colours. I’m not quite hip enough to tell if it’s woven, knitted or crocheted, and I guess it doesn’t much matter. It is pretty cool, though.

Honeycomb Hat

28 September 2009
One of the few things we bought at Grapefest this year – aside from the nearly required beer & wine – was a hat for Marita Beth. A completely unique one-of-a-kind hat constructed from honeycomb paper. Honeycomb paper is the paper out of which airplane wings are made. It’s extremely light and extremely durable for being a paper product. I don’t expect it would weather getting wet, but as long as we avoid that and keep it shaped with the pipe cleaner, the hat should last her a goodly number of years.
Honeycomb Paper
This is a photo of the hat taken from under the brim while on my head. You can just see the bright purple flower that has been affixed to the hat. It’s really quite charming.
Cheers.

Zach Plays a Game at No Frills

27 September 2009
I went and spent a couple of hours with Bryan and Zach, his charming son, at No Frills Grill this early afternoon. We watched a plethora of NFL and a bit of NASCAR while drinking beer, eating burgers and chatting. Good time.

Later in the day, Marita Beth & I went and checked out the new Chuy’s we have in the area. Yeah. Nothing special, that.
Cheers.
