Triumverbutts 3

Triumverbutts 3

15 November 2009

Here’s what so many of our readers have been waiting for . . . the third in the series . . . Triumverbutts 3. We squeezed this sketch into the last remaining daylight on Sunday, because Kelly was able to get away from her booth and she was wearing those little breeches that make her look so tasty from behind! I’m just girly enough that even so, I probably would have preferred all skirts in the sketch, but this original now belongs to Kelly, so she got to wear whatever she wanted!

It was another disappointing Sunday from a sales perspective. Better than last week, but not good. Again, it was a good thing Saturday was so strong. We enjoyed our bloody marys, though, and all things considered it was a very fun day. We packed up as quickly as we could at day’s end and were headed home, when at the last minute we answered the siren’s call and landed at the local Tex Mex restaurant with a giant pile of our dearest friends. Life is good. The drive home could be delayed by a few hours.

Kelly’s Bridesmaids Butt Sketch

Bridesmaids Butt Sketch

14 November 2009

Okay, I’m cheating. I took only a couple of photos on Saturday, and they were both of charming teenage girls—the daughters of a customer/friend at Pendragon Costumes. I didn’t think it was appropriate for me to post those photos here, so I’m time-shifting our super fun Bridesmaids Butt sketch. Our talented artist, Jonathan, who does these fabulous sketches was fulfilling another obligation today, and was not at faire. So, this sketch actually didn’t “happen” until Sunday. But, the original plan was for it to happen on Saturday, so I’m going with it.

This sketch depicts Ginger and Delaenya and me—the three bridesmaids in Kelly and John’s upcoming wedding. We are all very proud and delighted to be playing a role in Kelly’s special day next year, and we thought this sketch would be a fabulous gift for us to give Kelly . . . and of course, we were right! She loved it! I think we’ll have it framed and on display at the reception! ;-)

So, since this event actually took place on Sunday at noon, it should be said that we had a rockin’ day at Pendragon! The crowd at faire was huge, and a fair number of them were happily spending with us. Once the day was done, we waited a long time, finally giving up on the traffic and walking the last little distance to the Yellow House to have dinner with our friends: George, Delaenya, Karly, Garry, Lee, Ginger, Scott, Sarah, Kat, Vince, Terri, Ellie and her friend, and I’m sure I might be forgetting somebody . . . it was a fun group. After eating, the bridesmaids and Kelly all disappeared into her house for a toast and some wedding planning. It was amusing how polite we were all trying to be about giving Kelly all the control over what we wear! Ultimately, we did all pick a favourite design, and we settled on colours, as well. I was very proud of us! Kelly is planning to make all of our dresses, as well as her own—in fabulous Victorian fashion! We can hardly wait!

Melissa’s Skirt

Melissa's Skirt

13 November 2009

Not only is it Friday again, but it’s Friday the 13th. Does anybody even hold to the superstitions around that, these days? I certainly do not, and I went on about my day like it were any other Friday during faire.

I am prepared for my fitting with Allen and Melissa—her overskirt is complete, her underskirt and bodice both almost complete. Sleeves are awaiting successful mock-up fitting. For Allen, right now, I have the skirt to his outer doublet, and the underdoublet, partially built. His pattern was enough of a challenge, I can go no further without this fitting. So, next week will be a huge push to pump out the rest of their stuff.

For today, I snapped another photo of the fabric “trim” on Melissa’s overskirt . . . I guess I really like it! And, of course, my ability to be original with my photography probably decreases when I only get one hour of sleep!

The Cat on the Machine

Cat on the Machine

12 November 2009

Artemis and I had quite the game going as I worked late into the night and on into the morning. If I was at the cutting table, she’d move to the machine table. If I moved to the machine, she’d find a spot on the cutting table—usually on top of a dark piece of fabric.

At one point, I was patterning a sleeve, and looked over and there she was, laying along the front of the machine table, on what I wouldn’t have guessed was even wide enough for her body! But, there she lay, and I snapped this photo.

The Bar at the Rahr

The Bar at the Rahr

11 November 2009

In lieu of a PubGuys recording session, Kyle and I took a break from our respective work weeks tonight, to enjoy our first Wednesday night at the Rahr Brewery. At the risk of spreading the word too quickly, and the Wednesday night tastings becoming as large and crowded as the Saturday afternoon ones, I have to report that we had a total blast. We kept saying how much the experience felt like the early days there, when you could still hold a conversation, and you didn’t have to get in the line for your second beer as soon as you started your first.

We chatted with some total strangers with whom we shared the TCU link, we participated in the judging of the Brewing Battle Between the Sexes—two very tasty and very different pumpkin ales, and we got to enjoy a pint each of the Rahr Winter Warmer we all love so much. We even got to have a small personal chat with Fritz, the owner and master brewer (and fellow Horned Frog). It was a good time, and afterward, we went home and heated up some pork, courtesy of our friends Vince and Terri, and had a bite to eat before I went back to work for a little while. This wasn’t my late night, though . . . I’ll save that for Thursday!

Trim on Melissa’s Skirt

Trims on Melissa's Skirt

10 November 2009

The next couple of weeks will be full of pictures of the outfits I’m making for Melissa and Allen to wear to their daughter’s wedding. Although working on them has been gradual for a while now, I’m getting down to the wire, and will be focused on them above all else, now, until completion.

Tudor in style, Melissa’s outfit is burgundy with ivory trims and a golden underskirt and sleeve linings. I’m quite pleased so far. This is a close-up of the guarding and trims on her overskirt.

Lemon Wedge and Chopsticks

Lemon Slice and Chopsticks

9 November 2009

On Monday night, after I’d been at faire all weekend without Kyle, what I wanted most at dinnertime, was a quiet place, some yummy food, and some one-on-one time with my man.

We ended up at a nearby Asian restaurant where he ordered a spicy beef dish, and I had my frequent favourite, lemon chicken. My photo is of a lemon slice garnish that fell off my plate.

Giesen Butts on a Slow Sunday

Giesen Butts

8 November 2009

Here I am, finally creating my first post to go straight to the new website— The Daily KRuMB.com.

Sunday—-the slowest day of the faire so far, today. In fact it might just be the slowest single day ever, for us.

But, what that means, is that in an effort not to get too bogged down by it, we have to create our own fun. And, turns out, we know how to do that. ;-)

My main photo is of Larry holding the brand new butt sketch that he and Denise and Allyson had done today. Another fabulous drawing by our talented friend Jonathan. Other fun photos from the day show some of the silly fun we had, as well as the beautiful second Triumverbutt sketch.

Spicy Beef

9 November 2009
It would seem that I like to photograph food. There’s a bit of irony there in the fact that I don’t really like food – or I should say I don’t like the necessity of eating and have rarely found a food that is worth the time it takes to prepare it, retrieve it or in some cases, even eat it.
SpicyBeef
So, when it’s time for the nightly “what would you like for dinner,” discussion with my wife, I rarely have too much of an opinion. Tonight was no different with the excpetion that when she mentioned Asian cuisine I didn’t balk. So, she and I had a lovely meal out at a local Asian eatery called the Asian Bowl. I had this delightful spicy beef dish with fried rice while the woman had a lemon chicken dinner with steamed rice. Very enjoyable.
Cheers.

Pizza Always Helps

8 November 2009
I spent all of Saturday and most of Sunday morning trying to work through a SOAP/XML issue with the newly created web services I need to consume for an application I’m writing for work. It was a very frustrating, time-consuming waste of my weekend. At one point on Sunday, I decided to head out to the bookstore to see if they had anything that would help. They didn’t. But, right next to the bookstore is a BJ’s Brewhouse and frankly, beer & pizza always help.
Pizza Fork
Cheers.
