Candle on the Wall

Candle on the Wall

3 November 2009

I am not proud of this photo—I took like twelve shots trying to get a good one, and by the time I got this one passable one, I was simply too tired to keep trying. That’s what I get, of course, for waiting until the wee hours of the morning to realize I haven’t taken my photo, yet. I have got to stop doing that!!!

Fall Plantings

Fall Repotting

2 November 2009

Every fall, somewhere in the middle of TRF, I get a wild hair to do some indoor gardening. I keep a number of “hard to kill” pothos plants in the kitchen windowsill and in our dining room nook, and they occasionally require repotting or clipping. And sometimes, my little clippings that also live in vases on the windowsill mature to the point that they have viable roots that make them ready for their own little pot and some dirt.

I can’t explain why I love doing this . . . I’m sure a psychologist would have plenty to say about how I’m satisfying some need to nurture . . . scratching a mothering itch of some kind. And, that doctor would probably be right.

Today’s repotting project resulted in a new arrangement on the windowsill and a few fall decorations tossed into the mix.

Jonathan Sketches Iris

1 November 2009
After a bit of coercian and some coaxing and a bit of beer, I convinced Iris & Rose to let Jonathan sketch their butts so that I could hang it in the Pendragon Costumes shop at TRF and at East Wind Games or Pendragon at Scarborough. This photo shows the beginnings of the process as Jonathan captures the backside of Iris. The end result is delightful and will be proudly displayed.

The Bar in the Agora

31 October 2009
My 42nd birthday and day 3 of the celebration. Today, I got up, got spiffed and went out onto the faire grounds where I had a fantastic day. Nuff said. :-)

Damaris in Mid-Swing

30 October 2009
A continuation of my birthday celebration that began the day before saw me playing golf for the first time in about 9 years. Although my game has suffered, my enjoyment of the game has not lessened in the years. I had an amazingly fun time with my two dear friends Damaris & Roxy. The weather was glorious, the golf was fun, and the course was beautiful. I look forward to doing it again.

Waterway Square and the Goose's Acre

29 October 2009
I took today off so that Marita Beth & I could drive to TRF early and visit an Irish Pub I’d recently heard about in the Woodlands. We drove through an incredible amunt of rain on the way down and it showed no signs of stopping. I was, however, determined. So, we picked up Kelly, Damaris & Roxy and headed to the Woodlands through storms that were way too powerful for comfort. At times, we were so limited in visibility that we crawled along at less than 10 miles an hour. But, we arrived safely in the Woodlands and located the Goose’s Acre – a charming little upscale Irish Pub. There was no ready parking, so I dropped off the ladies and went in search of a spot which I finally found. On the walk to the Goose’s Acre, I stopped long enough to snap this shot:

If you find yourself in the Woodland’s I highly recommend the Goose’s Acre as a stopover.
Cheers.

Squeak & Iris

25 October 2009
I surround myself with good people. It’s what I do. Squeak and Iris are two that I choose to call family and relish every minute I spend with them. On Sunday’s at TRF, they come by in the early morning and we start the day with Bloody Marys. It’s a lovely tradition and I look forward to every Sunday because of it.

Drunk Yellowjacket

24 October 2009
Although I took other photos during the day that are probably better, I like this one for a variety of reasons.
The backstory: Squeak, John & I were chatting at the end of an Iris & Rose show at TRF. An annoying little yellowjacket starting buzzing around. When both John & Squeak indicated that they were allergic to the buggers, I upturned the conveniently left behind empty mead cup that the yellowjacket was obviously interested in. So captured, he buzzed about angrily for a few minutes until he found the remainder of the mead trapped in the plastic crevices of the cup. The yellowjacket proceeded to paint the town red and within 5 minutes was ripping drunk. Unable to fly, unable to walk a straight line, unable to do much of anything, he crouched on the ground and started blowing bubbles. We believe this was his method of purging the copious amounts of alcohol he had just imbibed. Quite fascinating, really.
Yellowjacket
Cheers.
