On the New Sofa, the Pub Guys and Bert

The Pub Guys at J. Gilligans

27 January 2010

Today was the day I’d orchestrated to get the new sofa moved into the house. Paid for last weekend, the hard part seemed like it was going to be the transportation itself. But, one by one, the details worked themselves out. Sherrie offered the loan of her van, and wonderful friends with muscles came out of the woodwork to help move it. Curtis and Marcus and Arron met me in Addison, and in mere moments the sofa was in the van. Curtis followed me home, and Andy met us there, and again, with amazing speed the sofa was in my crowded little living room. I love it!

We finished all that, just in time to go to J. Gilligan’s where the Pub Guys were recording this week’s show. It was a great show, and a very fun evening with a great turnout of fans.

We got home from the evening and were greeted for the first time by our beautiful new sofa. Kyle hadn’t been seated on it for even five minutes before he told me he loved it! Woo hoo! Success. I was overjoyed.

Unfortunately, the evening wasn’t joyous for long. This was the night the terrible phone call came to tell us of the loss of our dear friend, Bert. We didn’t allow ourselves much time to digest the news until after a few important phone calls had been made, but once that first tier of calls was made, we cuddled on our beautiful new sofa and periodically wept, well into the wee hours of the night.

As one can easily imagine, the sad news turned our lives upside-down a bit, and created a couple of weeks of sorrow and chaos. We have fallen incredibly far behind in our daily postings and I am only just now, two weeks later, writing this. Most of our readers of The Daily KRuMB will have received the same news within minutes—and have hopefully not missed our daily posts, since you, too, were having two weeks of sorrow and chaos. If you’ve been wondering what the heck was going on with us . . . now you know. Kyle and I are both devoted to getting caught up and back on track as quickly now, as possible. Thank you for your continued support and patience!

Two Dollar Night

Two Dollar Night

26 January 2010

Today, I enjoyed a wonderful meeting with Glenda and David, where we picked the fabrics and design elements of the outfit I’ll be making for her this season. I will need to procure some lovely blue silk for her overskirt, but hopefully that won’t be too difficult.

Proving that my busy season really is in full swing, I also did a fitting with Starr this evening, and got that all figured out. My first draft wasn’t perfect last week, but tonight I was spot on! Yay! After that, Kyle took me for dinner and trivia at No Frills. It’s hard to think about turning down that whole two dollar pint-thing. ;-)

Gold Brocade for the Queen

Gold Brocade for the Queen

25 January 2010

I met today with Shannon about her new outfit for the 2010 season. It’s been a while since she had a whole new outfit and it’s time. I’ve been hoarding beautiful royal fabrics for her and today she got to see them all. She picked from her purple velvet options and then chose a beautiful brocade for underskirt and sleeves. This one, though, I’ve had cut and ready to build for her for a while, so it will get made, too. I know her fabrics and trims will be frequent subjects of my photos during the coming weeks.

This is a close-up of the elaborate beading on a Middle Eastern outfit I found in a thrift store a couple of years ago. It lives in my workshop because it’s pretty and it provides a level of inspiration for my own creativity.

I spent the afternoon and much of the evening today at Dana’s, refamiliarizing myself with the Creative Memories scrapbooking software. It was a good time, spent with wonderful women—it was an inspiration-filled day.

Cowtown Diner

15 January 2010
We went on a pubcrawl tonight. My first pubcrawl in many, many years. I took off a wee bit early, picked up my wife and headed downtown. We arrived just as the first stop was ending. Now, this pubcrawl was being sponsored by, but not paid-for by, the Rahr Brewery. So, we were hoping for lots of tasty Rahr beer. Well, they ran out just as we arrived at the first stop: Grace. In fact, I think it may have been MB who got the last half-pint of the Whisky Warmer. Next stop was the Flying Saucer where copious amounts of Iron Thistle flowed free – well, the flowing was free, the drinking was not. Now, the Rahr broke us into groups to head to one of four differnt dinner locations. Marita Beth, myself, Terrill, Jill & Brett all headed to Cowtown Diner where our friend Brad is the Assistant to the Manager. Delightful food & more Rahr beer (Rahr Red this time) was had before we headed to the next stop. The Cowtown Diner is also where I took the first (and best) photo of the experience:

The next stop was Razzoos which was way too loud & crowded so we didn’t stay. In fact, only Terrill, Marita Beth & I made that trip. Everyone else stayed at Cowtown Diner or headed on to the final stop of the night which is where we headed next. Terrill went on home to be with his family while Marita Beth & I trudged to Paddy Red’s a charming, if exceptionally smoky, pub. One beer there and my bronchitis could take no more so we left. But, we left with memories, a gift certificate (which we won) and new friends. A delightful evening all in all!
Cheers.

Downtown at Night

13 January 2010
For some reason, the memory eludes me now as it’s been some time ago, Marita Beth & I were in downtown Ft. Worth on this Wednesday night. I took the opportunity to take this photo of one of the beautiful modern buildings in the city.
