My wife and I have been in Ohio since early, early Wednesday morning in order to spend Christmas time with John & Kelly. It has been a delightfully relaxed, relatively stress-free vacation that was both much-wanted and -needed.
John & Kelly live in a hearty district within Akron that is full of fantastic architecture and niche shopping/eating. Part of that architecture is represented in an American Castle called Stan Hywet (Stan HEE wit) built in a Tudor Revival style, it has expansive grounds (what remain) and is approximately 65,000 square feet with 65 rooms and 23 bathrooms. A true architectural marvel.
This photo of John and MaritaBeth was taken near the end of our time there just as light started to fade and Christmas lights were switched on.
May you and yours, in whatever fashion is best for you, experience the full joy of this season.
Cheers.

Marita Beth and I woke with a leisurely start to the day, but soon settled into the same work-at-the-Rahr-then-do-something-else routine. Today, that something else was a brief lunch at Yucatan Taco Stand followed by a trip up Main Street to the Stockyards on the North side of Ft. Worth. There we whiled away the time until dinner at Cattlemen's for Ed's birthday.
While in the Stockyards, this photo was secured at the Stockyards Wine Company, a lovely little store chock full of Texas wines & beers. Did I mention that you can buy wine or beer and then stroll the streets? I really do enjoy the Stockyards.
Cheers.

Last night we went to Fuzzy's Tacos, a local fish tacos & more place that my wife loves. What we didn't realize was how close we arrived to closing time.
When all the stools were on their tables, the restaurant was empty & the busboy was emptying our table of dishes faster than we were emptying the dishes, we figured it was time to go. But, not before I took the photo…
Cheers.

I love the colors of fall!
My only complaint about them is that here in Texas, those beautiful colors arrive just a week or two before Christmas and are gone before the New Year arrives. So, we have precious little time to revel in and marvel at the beauty of it all.
These trees are Bradford Pears just outside my office window.
Cheers!

Several years ago we found a lovely, intimate restaurant on Galveston Island called Rudy & Paco. For a short while our group descended on the tiny restaurant for a group dinner. Eventually, as is won't to happen, the group got so large we could not all be accommodated at the same time, so we stopped going there. We missed it.
So, today for lunch 5 of us went for lunch. The restaurant is as good, and as intimate, as I remembered.
My lunch, avocado topped with lump crab and drizzled with a chipotle cream sauce accompanied by a slice of tomato topped with jumbo (non-Gulf, luckily) shrimp and raspberry chipotle was delicious and oh, so rich.
I look forward to my next visit.

It's no secret that we here at the KRuMB enjoy our vacations. Strangely, though, the only gonna-do-it-every-year holiday is the annual trip to Dickens on the Strand. Last year, due to a wedding, we took a leisurely pace and arrived on Galveston Island on Wednesday. This year we did the same. However, instead of paying for an extra night at an over-priced Wyndham property, we stayed with the fine folks that own this lovely house here on the island.
Cheers.

The well-known, well-loved beer-bar franchise, World of Beer opened tonight in our neck of the woods. Despite much to do prior to final weekend of TRF and Dickens, we braved the congress of hipsters and joined them for opening night…for one beer.
It is delightful that beer is enough well respected that even Texas can – for now – support a beer only (not just that InBev crap) bar.
Cheers.

Jim Hancock, the Burly Minstrel as he patiently awaits his time on stage. My timing on the photo was good as he strode to the stage mere seconds later.
Cheers.

Morning at the driving range discovering that my game has deteriorated massively after a decent few summer outings. Then, lunch at Fabulous 50s Diner while on my way to AceMart & Dr. Jekyll's for food-grade tubing and bottles. Wish I was at TRF with all those I love.
