Mama's All-in-One Grapefruit Peel

27 January 2013

This might be one of the cutest photos ever, of my mother. I hope I have half the spark of fun and silliness and even a fraction of the cute when I’m 75 years old!

For years, Mama has regularly practiced the art of peeling a grapefruit. Now, some might skeptically ask, “The art? Since when is peeling a grapefruit an art?” But, with citrus trees in your own backyard, the task becomes routine and you play games with yourself … Mama’s favorite game is to try to do …this!

Congratulations, Mama! I love you.

Broadway Palm Sign

26 January 2013

It is a testament to how much I love the theatre and how very much I love my mama, that I attended the Broadway Palms production of Fiddler On The Roof despite feeling like mildly warmed yak piss.

Yep.  Been in Florida less than three days and I’m sick …probably feverish, and coughing and sneezing and just generally miserable-feeling.  But, the show was lovely!  An admirable job was done with it, and we thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.

We made this same thespian pilgrimage last January for a different show at the same theatre—Pack up the pups and overnight bags and pile into the R.V.  Do the drive (I slept for much of it this time).  Spend the night in a nearby Cracker Barrel parking lot and be there for breakfast before driving on to the theatre for an early afternoon matinee.   And, then a leisurely drive back home with a dinner stop along the way.

We might have stayed out another night had I not felt so bad and sounded so sick.  Instead, we returned home to comfy beds and the ability to “sleep in” in the morning.

Squirrel!

24 January 2013

This little guy was one of two that I watched climb and perform acrobatics on the lanai here at my mama’s house in Florida. Here, he’s just hanging out for a moment before bounding across the top of the screen structure to the roof of the house, down the wall to the ground, across the grassy area and up a bush to a low hanging branch of a tall palm tree and up into that palm tree to an invisible safe spot.

If only he’d have known he was safe all along.

Looking Up at Tampa Airport

23 January 2013

Yesterday, I called my mama to verify all was well for my visit, and it’s a good thing I did! Apparently, I had never informed her that I was traveling on Wednesday instead of Thursday! But, it didn’t seem to matter to her much … and, she was actually glad for the extra day together when she found out I wasn’t leaving a day earlier, too!

So, everything went perfectly well: the packing, the leaving home on time, swiftly moving security checkpoint … of course, there was a slight delay due to a missing plane, but that’s a small thing!
I did finally get on the plane, and my seat was outstandingly wonderful! I was flying Spirit Airlines and Kyle had upgraded me to a “big front seat!” I worked on a beading project during the flight and arrived in Tampa just an hour or so later than the original plan. I happened to look up in the terminal while waiting for a tram, and shot this fun photo of the decor above.

I’m in Florida, now! Quality time with my mama!

WOB Early Morning

20 January 2013

I set my work aside this morning, and joined Kyle at WOB for the wonderful quiet (and bargain prices) that happen on a Sunday morning there. We actually got there a little before official opening and I was struck by how lovely and peaceful the place looked. So, I snapped a photo.

The Cluster at Midway and 635

17 January 2013

My photo depicts the giant cluster that is the intersection of I-635 and Midway Road. Great sections of my drive today looked as though I was navigating a war zone! I’m glad I don’t have to drive in North Dallas every day.

But, today was Safari Day. I was off to locate, trap, and retrieve the perfect fabrics for two of my special orders. Ironically, both of the fabrics I’ve chosen came from the first place I went–five minutes from my house! But, I certainly didn’t know that for sure without checking all my other options … so off to Dallas I went.

I saw lots of fabulous things … collected swatches and even met with a client while I was in Dallas to get his approval on what I had found that seemed perfect. I found a number of beautiful remnants and came across a super duper sale on trims at Dallas’ Cutting Corners. So, the back seat of my truck is now totally full of awesome fabric and trim and tassels! And I located exactly what I went in search of…it was the perfect fabric safari.

The drive home, however … not so perfect! It took me almost two hours to make my way home through rush hour traffic. Even the Bush Tollway was a parking lot. Fortunately, I was technically not in a hurry, and I used my time to make a few phone calls (I love my blue tooth!) and do some thinking and planning. And, now, I should be able to work on my spring orders without another foray to North Dallas.

Pinkie Out, Adam!

16 January 2013

Trivia Night! Adam was in the doghouse with Amanda and she punished him by serving his beer in taster size glasses … with a straw!

If you haven’t made it to the World of Beer in Arlington on a Wednesday night for PubGuys Live Trivia, you should! It’s a fun evening! I’m very proud of Kyle, Terrill and Adam … they do a great job.

The Scotch Aisle at Specs

15 January 2013

We woke up to snow this morning! And, I didn’t take a photo. The dogs were so beautiful running through the white stuff.
I had lunch with Ronnie at a place I’d never been. And, I didn’t take a photo. The avocado burrito thing I had was delicious.
On the way “home” I had an errand to run in the Hulen area and found myself in the same block as the Specs that’s been teasing me since I first spotted it in December. So, I allowed myself a detour … and, I remembered to use the camera!

I spent far too much time … and money … enjoying the great selection of cheeses, bar snacks and of course, liquor. This photo is just of the Scotch aisle!

Beautiful, isn’t it?
