Zaptop [Advertisement]

I am a collector. I collect all sorts of things, comic books, games, books, beer mats and, of course, bottle openers. I have many hundreds of different bottle openers of varying types: small, hand-held, base-mounted, wall-mounted, HUGE, tiny, military issue and so on. So, it was with great anticipation that I received from Zaptop their contribution to the bottle opener market. For full disclosure, I did not buy the Zaptop, I was supplied one in order to review it, so review it I shall. At first glance the Zaptop doesn’t look like a bottle opener. It does not conform to any of the standard bottle opener form factors. It’s light weight which is a plus, but it doesn’t fit in my pocket making it not so travel-ready, that’s a negative. It’s round, just slightly smaller in diameter than a typical beer bottle. It’s short, being less than half the height of a typical beer bottle. Ergonomically, it’s very comfortable with a slightly rounded top that fits in my hand nicely. It looks so innocuous, can it really be an effective bottle opener. Let’s see.
I grabbed a bottle, Angry Orchard was in the queue, applied the Zaptop, pressed down and lifted – as per instructions. To my disappointment it did not work. My first thought was, “great, they sent me a defective one”. But, I tried again; this time, I pressed down until I heard a faint click and when I lifted the Zaptop, the bottlecap came with it dangling from the included magnet. Delightfully easy. And, if you’re like me and also collect bottlecaps, you’ll be thrilled to know that the bottlecap comes out un-crimped, unblemished and completely in tact.
Being a small bit concerned about the amount of pressure needed to relieve the bottle of its cap, I pulled another bottle from the beer fridge, a Yuengling this time, and asked my wife to open it. Yuengling, by the way, has a twist-off cap so this was, in essence, a dual test.
My wife pressed down with little effort until she heard that tell-tale faint click and gracefully removed that Yuengling cap with the Zaptop.
I cannot wait to open my next bottle with the newest addition to my bottle opener collection, the Zaptop.
The Zaptop, my newest bottle opener, will proudly reside in center bar for easy access.
