It’s been a couple of years since I had the pleasure of outfitting Dan for his role at Scarborough Renaissance Festival. The last time I costumed him, was in 2008, when I did coordinating outfits for him and Bert, as they played the roles of Figbash and Scrump—never telling anyone which one was which, and constantly changing that fact, anyway. It was a hoot, and Dan is a pleasure to sew for . . . he trusts me. That’s a great feeling, and so last year, when he informed me he would be going back to an older character and would be needing another new outfit, I was thrilled he picked me to do it for him.
Since I had my first official meeting with him this season, tonight, this photo today, is of his favourite of the fabrics we’ve chosen for him. The character is a bit of a clown . . . almost a jester-like guy . . . an “actor.” So, his ensemble is a bit outside the perfectly “historically accurate” and will therefore be both a challenge and a delight.
