Henry’s Hideout

26 November 2009
Thanksgiving Day here in the U.S. It’s never been a holiday I’ve been overly fond of, so it was of no consequence to me when a couple of years ago the Texas Renaissance Festival decided to start opening on the Friday after Thanksgiving. That meant that on that Thanksgiving Day, Marita Beth & I would be travelling rather than stuffing ourselves silly with food I don’t like. This year, because I had to be back on Sunday for my corporate gig, we drove separate vehicles. She in her Yukon with trailer, and I in my Lancer. I drive faster than she, and left slightly earlier than she, so I found myself in Magnolia just before dusk. So, I went to Henry’s Hideout to watch the UT/A&M college football game. Marita Beth, Amber, Sean & Kat all joined me there for the 2nd half of that excellently played game.
Henry’s Hideout is a slice of Texas. One half is a bar that contains the largest selection of animal horns I’ve ever seen in my life. The entire ceiling of the bar area is covered in animal horns with the majority seeming to be deer. The other half of the building is Gilley’s dancehall and is owned by Keith Gilley, son of reknowned country artist, Mickey Gilley.

If you should ever find yourself driving 1774 between Plantersville & Magnolia, do yourself a favour and drop in for a quick beer and a gander.
Cheers.
