We just had a wee bit of a celebration! As I logged into WordPress to enter my post for the day, our blog—our Daily Krumb—was the WordPress “Blog of the Minute!” That’s pretty cool! Too bad yesterday’s post was a little lame. No fun links or anything. But, still it’s neat to think that a complete stranger might follow that link to us, and find himself wandering through our daily journal.
Today’s photo is a bit bizarre. Pretty lights! <winking at Kelly> But, they’re not really blue.
This is the little truck stop/fast food/gas station conglomeration just north of Midlothian, Texas. For years, every journey south toward Scarborough or Houston, has involved a slow, tedious drive through the stop lights, low speed limits, active train tracks, and frequent turn-offs of this little town. Last fall, after years of knowing it was eventually going to happen, we were TRF-bound and suddenly found ourselves on new road! The loop around Midlothian was complete! No more train tracks! It’s a brilliant stretch of Highway 287 that circumvents the downtown zone, and we love it. From the new road, we now look over and down at this brightly lit travel stop, and never have to deal with it! This is how it looks at night, from the car at about sixty miles an hour!
The bad news about the bypass, is it seems to have hurt the downtown businesses. One of our very favourite little Mexican restaurants, Campuzano’s had a great little location right on the main drag of Midlothian. We loved to stop there on Sunday nights after Scarborough. The food was amazing, the waitstaff was friendly, even if they didn’t really “do” English, and the drinks were free! Yep. No liquour license—dry town , I think—and so your beer, OR your margaritas were free! Sadly, the store is now empty—no more free Sunday night margaritas for me!
Today was our set-up day at faire—a good eight-hour work day. It would have been an even longer, more exhausting day, without the wonderful help of Donny and Joe and Cindy. We are so blessed with good friends.
East Wind Games looks great! And Pendragon is coming along, too, although much of the product is still to arrive. With the end of the Arizona Renaissance Festival today, I’ll receive some boxes from there, in addition to what Nicole is currently frantically sewing. So, I’ll have quite a bit more set up to do on Thursday or Friday. But, for now, it’s looking pretty good.
