Patron Saint of the Garden
This statuary saint looks over Marita Beth’s gardening efforts in the front yard. I think he’s the Patron Saint of the Garden, but I don’t know that for sure, and I really don’t know what that saint’s name might be. But, I loved the beautiful light on him when I issued forth from the house that morning.
Cheers.

    I think it’s St. Thomas – if that’s a bird he’s holding by the way…
    love you,

St. Francis is the patron saint of wildlife, and he’s one of my favourites! But his order wore a tonsure–the weird haircut. This guy has hair! And what you can’t see in this photo, is that he’s holding a shovel. His name is St. Fiacre. He’s a seventh century monk, whose healing skills were so popular, he fled to France for more solitude. The bishop there told him he could have as much land for his garden of healing herbs as he could entrench in one night. He walked the perimeter of his desired land and everywhere his spade touched, the earth within was turned, trees were toppled and the land was prepared for planting. The bishop determined it was a miracle! He’s always depicted with a garden spade (like Francis always has a bird and usually a deer or bunny or both; Joseph always holds the baby, Anthony always holds the baby on a bible with lilies), and he is the patron saint of gardeners!
Sorry it took me so long to remember his name!
