Sunbathing

Sunbathing

9 May 2007

Another beautiful day in North Texas–including a little bit of rain.  But, before the rain, in the heat of the day, this fellow was sunning himself in our driveway.  I hadn’t seen any of these guys in a while, and I’d just begun to wonder . . . and there he was.  I actually walked past him without seeing him on my way down the driveway, and spotted him on my way back to the house.  He waited in the same spot, just long enough for me to go inside and get my camera, and take one shot before scurrying away.

I’m actually quite delighted with the photo itself–not bad for the only photo of the day, I’d say.

It’s two a.m. and I’m just on my way to bed.  Yesterday I wrote my KRuMB entry so early in the day, I didn’t get to mention two highlights of my day.  First, our very nice nearby neighbour Jason, began the three step process of removing the awful cherry laurel  tree from our front yard.  Already the big difference is light and visibility.  The oak tree will ultimately be more healthy and potentially, the grass will get more sunlight and maybe someday we’ll actually have a lawn.  The second thing is that we did our usual Tuesday night Trivia session at No Frills, and we had a wonderful time, sharing knowledge and laughs with Brett and Jill and with Sherry.  Thank you all for joining us—it was a perfect “unwinder”of an evening!  With “no work!”  ;-)

Skull

Taken on Saturday, April 28, this is the only photo I took that day:
Skull
Scarborough Faire finally delivered a good day for East Wind Games. It was a long, tiring day but that’s because there were people at the festival and it was not cold. In fact it was quite comfortable bordering on warm. However, due to the way the day progressed, I neglected to take any photos until near bedtime. I’d been drinking out of this mug all day and decided it should just be my subject for the photo. I took one photo and called it a night. The mug is from Pirate Pots and I highly recommend it. It’s great quality with a superior design.
Cheers.

Bush & Car

Lunchtime on the 9th. You know what that means? Yeah, I’m going to try to squeeze a couple more posts up.
This photo was taken on the 27th of April outside Rob’s Billiards.
Bush and Car
I like the light on the bush so I took a couple of photos. This one, with the car rushing by behind was the one I chose. I appreciated the contrast between the silver-blue blur and the green.
Cheers

Columbine

Columbine

8 May 2007

Two hours was not nearly enough, but that’s how long I spent in the front yard today, weeding, cleaning out leaves, pruning, and just generally trying to reclaim some semblance of control over my little corner of the natural world.  If I try to gift myself with a couple of hours out there every week before I go away, I might feel as though I haven’t been totally neglectful.  Spring sure did happen without me this year.  No new plants, no new mulch, no new grass—it’s a wonder—another of Mother Nature’s miracles—that the perennials are doing as well as they are with no help from me at all.

Surrounded by the plants and the squirrels and the birds, and Gaia herself, I can almost forget the evils of the world—like computer hackers who have nothing better to do with their lives than to make other people’s lives miserable and inconvenient.  My apologies to anyone who has tried to visit our websites and discovered the ugly hacker’s screen.  It makes me so angry.  What small, sorry little people these must be, who actually think their destructive, malicious efforts are “cool.”  But, “breathe,” I tell myself.  This too, shall pass, and what goes around—comes around.  Those awful people will ultimately reap what they sow.  And, there’s my segue back to the earth . . . for she heals all things.

Practically hidden in old leaves and overzealous ivy, is this beautiful, blooming columbine plant.  It was a gift from our neighbour Jerry, from across the street, when his wife Pat died.  It always makes me happy to see it bloom and I think of her.

Hackers Suck!

That’s really all I wanted to say.  I’ll post my picture and write something later.  But for now, GRRRR.

It's a Mystery

Still the 8th of May, but this photo is from the 26th of April. I think I’ve mentioned before how difficult it is to remember what was going through my head when I took a particular picture. Some times it’s easy, sometimes it’s hard. This time…it’s hard.
Post
I have, honestly, no idea what this is or even exactly where it is. I have a vague recollection of filling up with petrol and taking photos while the pump was engaged. But of what really remains a mystery to me. I like the photo. I like the background colours (trees or grass or bush) and the depth of field is quite nice; it certainly provides a very sharp line between subject and background. Call it an eyeball bender.
Cheers.
