"Beached"

"Beached"
Down the side road of the route I drive each day, this appeared. One day the road was there, the next…well, there was a boat on it. I just had to grab the photo. The bottom of the boat is essentially gone; it’s rotted straight through. This thing will never sit on water again, but it seems to have taken up residence here.
Cheers.

Clean Booth

Clean Booth

24 March 2007

So, once I had taken my Friday photo, I figured I ought to take my Saturday photo!  But, by the time I thought about it, we were just about done for the day, and we were packing things up, and closing down the booths.  So, this is a quick snapshot of Donny putting up the doors at the Pendragon Costumes booth.

I’ll be more creative when I’m less tired!

Transylvanian Smile

Transylvanian Smile

23 March 2007

Okay, so it’s Sunday as I write this.  But, this is my Friday photo.  Taken on Saturday at the Scarborough site.  But, it’s still legal . . . I didn’t break any rules.   Remember that our daily photos sometimes get taken after midnight, or into the wee hours of the morning of the next day, and as long as we’re still up, it’s still that day, no matter what the calendar and clock say . . . well, this photo is my Friday photo, because I was still up!

I pulled my first all-nighter in about a year–in fact next Friday, it will have been exactly one year!  But the result was this rather fabulous Eastern European Robe for Jessie.  He plays a Transylvanian nobleman at the English Court.  And I think it’s safe to say, judging from his goofy smile, that he’s happy with his garment.

After doing absolutely nothing but sewing all day Friday, and all night, Saturday was our big cleaning and unloading day at the faire.  We had half a dozen or more people lined up to help, so there was no rearranging the calendar on this.  Off we went, we worked hard all day, and when we got home around 7 p.m. I went back to the workshop and finished the sleeves and sash for Jessie’s outfit.  Those I’ll deliver today–in about an hour and half.

Terminal D in Motion

21 March, 2007
2007032160402 AM
Travel time again; this time I was on way to Los Angeles for a client meeting. I’d only be there a couple of hours, and the flight was fairly early in the morning. So I trundled my sleepy body to the airport at 6:30 in the morning for a 7:25 flight. I got there to find out that the plane was delayed and I’d have a couple of hours to kill in the terminal. Normally, that’d be fine; I’d just head to the nearest bar, and terminal D has several good ones, and while away the hours. But, it was early enough that a) the bars weren’t open and b) I was on my way to meet with a client and the last thing I needed to do was show up with beer on my breath. So, I sat down and hoped not to fall asleep as I waited for my travel arrangements to come to fruition. I amused myself with taking long-exposure photographs of the terminal. This is one of the better ones; that blur in the middle is an American Airlines pilot walking briskly to a gate.
Cheers

The Bog

20 March, 2007
Bog
It’s time to play catchup. This photo was taken 5 days ago and is only just now getting posted. I was on my way home when I espied that elusive heron/crane in the bog. It was during rush hour, so I turned the car around at the nearest opportunity and went back to try and capture a good shot of the bird. Unfortunately, because of the way the road winds through the bottoms, the bird was on the other side of this water-filled gully. In my dress shoes and work clothes, I didn’t feel like braving the swamp-like conditions, so I settled for this shot of the trees emerging from the water.
Cheers.

Another One Down

Another One Down

22 March 2007

Yep.  One more Scarborough performer is newly costumed for the season.  Sir Nicholas Carew—beging played by Mr. Shannon Wiley.  That leaves me one more this week—due before Sunday.  And all day Saturday, we’ll be at the faire site cleaning and setting up our booths.  So, tomorrow is the day!  Here’s hoping all goes well, and I don’t have any major design issues like I did with the last one!

I also got two mock-up fittings done tonight–so I can go ahead with those orders as soon as possible.

So, one more this week, and two next week; that finishes my performing company folks.  Then two the week of opening, and two more for second weekend.  Then—sometime after my birthday and visits from  Larry and Denise and George—I’ll take a day off!

Good thing I enjoy what I do!

Oh . . . the picture.  Kyle poured me my first glass of wine tonight around 7:30—this is the second or third—doesn’t matter.  What matters is I’ve delivered another order!!!

Workshop Cat

Workshop Cat

21 March 2007

I ignored my 2 a.m. “cat alarm” to quit working.  In fact, I’ve ignored Artemis’ requests for bedtime at 3 and at 4 a.m. as well.  I think, despite the fact that there’s an original Star Trek episode on TVLand right now—always a source of both amusement and entertainment for me—that I had better call it a night, before it’s actually morning.

I’ve been up for nearly 24 hours and I’m really starting to feel it.  Kyle and I got up at five a.m. Wednesday, to get him ready for his one-day business trip to L.A,   I had a difficult day here in the workshop—design and construction frustrations.  I feel like I’ve ripped out as many stitches as I’ve successfully completed.  But, I’m nearly done with this project, now:  one sleeve is done, so the other one will be easy.  Then, a few grommets, buttons and button holes—-oh, and a pair of breeches.  But, those are gonna have to wait ’til tomorrow.

G’night.
