Sidelines

5 February 2007

The season started tonight for the soccer league Kyle plays in–Monday night games, which means I might make it to a few of them.  I miss the years when I could go to every game with him, and not feel like I was goofing off from work!   The Strikers won tonight–2-1.  Go! Win! Strikers!

I had a satisfying day–lots of chores, and a great first time visit with Debbie–the woman I’m hoping will be my new assistant seamstress for a while!   She is a very competent sewer, and her own perfectionism and lack of confidence are her own worst enemies!  Sound familiar?  I really think she’s gonna do great!  And I’m very pleased to have someone with some skill and a clue!  Rick is hard to replace! I have been spoiled!

Anyway, I tried to take bunch of pictures at the game, tonight, but most of them turned out to be pretty uninteresting.  My zoom just does not get me close enough to the action.  So, I settled for a makeshift, what you see is what you get-style still life of Kyle’s stuff on the sidelines.

Priceless

Cowboy Kyle
4 February 2007

Two tickets to the 111th Annual Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo Finals:  $55.00

Learning that your American Express points will pay for those tickets:  -$55.00

Three beers, two corn dogs and an order of nachos with cheese:  $27.00

Two goofy straw cowboy hats just like you’ve always secretly wanted:  $20.00

That look of smug satisfaction on your husband’s face ’cause he knows he’s about to get to watch some championship bull-riding:  Priceless.

Upside-down Cat

Upside-down Cat
3 February 2007

It was a good day.  I started my day with a “coffee date” with Mark–one of my oldest and dearest friends.  And then my husband took me out for lunch, and we played some trivia.  And finally, we watched some fun TV and cuddled.  There won’t be many more Saturdays like this for quite a while!  It’s all about to get pretty hectic!

As we were winding down, Artemis decided it was playtime, of course.  The perspective on this photo is really funny, but I promise it is right-side up!  It’s the cat that’s upside-down!!

Chili's, Too at IAH

January 22
Chili's Too at IAH
The joy/curse of my new position is travel. A recent trip took me to MIA via IAH. After arriving at IAH out of DFW, and being sorely hungry, my boss and I grabbed a quick bite at the only real restaurant in the terminal, Chili’s, Too before heading on to MIA. It was a long week.
Cheers.

Salty Dog

At Scarborough Faire, we have this wonderful shop at the end of the lane near the list called Dragon Wings. One of the many fine products Deborah (the proprietor) produces are these fine marionettes. We have two of them in the house, this one is dressed in the same material we wore in our wedding.
Cheers.

Marionette

This litle guy hangs in our living room as a memorial to our beloved Kiddo–an incredible orange and white, long-haired tabby cat that was part of our lives for most of eighteen years!  Our friends got together and provided his photo for the talented lady who makes these, and this was designed specifically for us–to look like him.  Dumbest, sweetest cat that ever lived.

Dark Mirror

January 19

I’ve no idea what this is. Perhaps I’ll clean it up enough to see the reality of the photo someday. But, right now, in an effort to get caught up from my woefully-behind state of being, I’m just putting it up and damn the consequences. I’m a better photographer than this, but sometimes I get limited by the constraints of time and camera.
Cheers.

What it is, is a very cool, very bizarre shot taken into the large full-length mirror in our living room.  Reflected from across the room is the top of the bookcase, including the beautiful lamp made by Shannon Jane Morgan.  Strange angle.  Odd lighting.  But very cool somehow!
