My wife are working at the Rahr today, but enroute we stopped at the Yucatan Taco Stand for food & margaritas before football & superb beer at the Rahr.

Akron, Ohio

My wife and I have been in Ohio since early, early Wednesday morning in order to spend Christmas time with John & Kelly. It has been a delightfully relaxed, relatively stress-free vacation that was both much-wanted and -needed.
John & Kelly live in a hearty district within Akron that is full of fantastic architecture and niche shopping/eating. Part of that architecture is represented in an American Castle called Stan Hywet (Stan HEE wit) built in a Tudor Revival style, it has expansive grounds (what remain) and is approximately 65,000 square feet with 65 rooms and 23 bathrooms. A true architectural marvel.

This photo of John and MaritaBeth was taken near the end of our time there just as light started to fade and Christmas lights were switched on.

May you and yours, in whatever fashion is best for you, experience the full joy of this season.

Cheers.

Happy Birthday, Ed

Marita Beth and I woke with a leisurely start to the day, but soon settled into the same work-at-the-Rahr-then-do-something-else routine. Today, that something else was a brief lunch at Yucatan Taco Stand followed by a trip up Main Street to the Stockyards on the North side of Ft. Worth. There we whiled away the time until dinner at Cattlemen's for Ed's birthday.
While in the Stockyards, this photo was secured at the Stockyards Wine Company, a lovely little store chock full of Texas wines & beers. Did I mention that you can buy wine or beer and then stroll the streets? I really do enjoy the Stockyards.

Cheers.

Fuzzy’s Stools

   Posted by: crazyBobcat    in Daily

Last night we went to Fuzzy's Tacos, a local fish tacos & more place that my wife loves. What we didn't realize was how close we arrived to closing time.
When all the stools were on their tables, the restaurant was empty & the busboy was emptying our table of dishes faster than we were emptying the dishes, we figured it was time to go. But, not before I took the photo…

Cheers.

Lunch at Rudy & Paco

   Posted by: crazyBobcat    in Daily

Several years ago we found a lovely, intimate restaurant on Galveston Island called Rudy & Paco. For a short while our group descended on the tiny restaurant for a group dinner. Eventually, as is won't to happen, the group got so large we could not all be accommodated at the same time, so we stopped going there. We missed it.
So, today for lunch 5 of us went for lunch. The restaurant is as good, and as intimate, as I remembered.
My lunch, avocado topped with lump crab and drizzled with a chipotle cream sauce accompanied by a slice of tomato topped with jumbo (non-Gulf, luckily) shrimp and raspberry chipotle was delicious and oh, so rich.
I look forward to my next visit.

Fries with that?

Morning at the driving range discovering that my game has deteriorated massively after a decent few summer outings. Then, lunch at Fabulous 50s Diner while on my way to AceMart & Dr. Jekyll's for food-grade tubing and bottles. Wish I was at TRF with all those I love.

Downtown Kenosha

Marita Beth & I spent the majority of the day in Kenosha, WI hopping from antiques to boutiques to bars. Downtown is charming with the potential to be oh so much more. It seems that a couple of entitled families are holding the majority of the buildings (and thus, tenants) hostage at unreasonably inflated prices waiting for that “just around the corner” Kenosha boom.
Frankly, I don’t see it happening until one of the stubborn families loses a pivotal, influential player in the game of real estate.
Here’s to Kenosha and its coming boom.Cheers.

The Strange Case of the Missing Minyards

   Posted by: crazyBobcat    in Daily

As I left the movie theatre today a newly erected fence in the parking lot caught my eye. I slowed to take a look & realized it was not so much the erected fence,  but the missing building that had poked at my subconscious.
The Minyards that was, for years, my default grocery store – as much because it was a homegrown, local grocery store chain as anything else – is no more. It has been empty now for a considerable length of time, but it's absence on the corner will take some getting used to.
I guess WalMart gets to notch another company on their "we are taking over the world" stick.

Cheers

Jenna & Cormac

   Posted by: crazyBobcat    in Daily

Jenna_Cormac On a cleaning day for Scarborough Faire, our dear friend Laura came out to assist (thank you!). She brought her young daughter with her, too, much to Cormac’s delight. Late in the day, they were just hanging out, like dear friends do, and I snapped this photo. I’ve softened it a bit for effect, but I love the photo.

Cheers.
