Pizza Perspective

   Posted by: krmb    in Daily

20 September 2008
I watched some football this morning, then Marita Beth & went errand running. In the course of the errands, I managed to convince her that beer & pizza are a lovely combination and that we should have some. :-)
This is that pizza
Pizza Perspective
which we acquired at BJ’s Brew Pub in Arlington. The pizza was quite tasty and I’ve always been fond of their Jeremiah Red. MB had a hefeweissen of some sort, then we shared their Oktoberfest lager. I told you beer & pizza was a good combination.
Cheers.

Eyeball Bender – sorta

   Posted by: krmb    in Daily

10 June 2008
Epiphany. Last night, my wife said, "Hey, I found a GAMES magazine we haven’t looked at yet, wanna play Eyeball Benders?" I realised right then, that my love of macro and extreme close-up photography probably stems from that crazy game from GAMES magazine. I’ve been a nearly-but-not-quite-constant subscriber to that magazine from age 12 and Eyeball Benders, while not a regular in the magazine has long been my favourite game. So, here I am 28 years later creating my own Eyeball Bender photos on a regular basis:

Night Light Close-Up

   Posted by: krmb    in Daily

21 January 2008
Went to work this morning despite being sick. I guess that's how much I care. I felt lousy and don't really feel like I got much accomplished, but there's a certain sense of satisfaction in knowing that I was strong enough to stave off this damn cold long enough to get into work. After work, however, I went straight home. No bar, no restaurant, no pool hall. Just home to two dogs, a cat that doesn't much care for me and some Nighttime Cold Medicine. While fixing that for myself I noticed this string of decorative lights around the kitchen window and thought: "gosh, those are kinda pretty" (I think it was the cold medicine already taking hold). I got the camera and you get this photo:

Character Tiles

   Posted by: krmb    in Daily

9 December 2007
Ater a pretty lousy emotionally turbulent morning followed by a great deal of work, Marita Beth went over to Ginger’s for a much-needed “girl’s day out.” She, Ginger & Kelly sat and did what girls do while playing Mah Jongg. I, meanwhile, finished my work and then went to No Frills Grill for a very exciting Dallas Cowboys game. I’m not the biggest fan of American football you’ll ever find. I find the rules cumbersone and overly-restrictive; but I can certainly get swept up into the emotion of a rich game and there’s no denying the amount of talent present on the field and sideline of any given professional football game. The Cowboys won, I finished my beer and then crashed the girls party. It was getting on in the day, so I didn’t intend to stay long, but since Kelly was leaving the next day, I had to get over for a kiss and a hug. Besides, even though Ginger only lives a few blocks away, we all tend to hermit ourselves after Dickens so I hadn’t seen her either. So, there I went and sat and watched a few hands of Mah Jongg. They were well-embroiled in a three-hand game, so I didn’t wish to intrude, but I did take a photo of Marita Beth’s hand at one point.

I took a bunch of photos at No Frills Grill, too, but I like this one best.
Cheers.

The Nearly Ubiquitous Flower

   Posted by: krmb    in Daily

19 November 2007
Marita Beth is home, and I'm feeling damn near human again. I even went to work then went out with the boys after work for quick drink & a game of pool. Again, I didn't drink much, just enough to say I had; I just wasn't up to it. But, MB brought home with her yet another beautiful flower arrangement from John Myers. This is one of the flowers that was included in the spray. I love the orange.

Up Pompey!

   Posted by: krmb    in Daily

12 November 2007
I spent the day travelling from mid-US to west-US, and despite gaining two hours in the transit, it still wiped me out. I had a quick bite to eat at a lovely little Italian restaurant called Cecilia's, then settled in for a quick night-time read. Even though my bookclub is currently reading Love in the Time of Cholera I just couldn't bring myself to take the book on the trip. It's actually a surpassingly well-written book. However, at nearly 100 pages in, I'd still to discern a plot, so I've set it aside. I'll finish it someday, I suppose. But having grown up in a time when fiction meant a plot that moves the reader along, I was struggling to enjoy it. So, I brought with me a non-fiction book: Up Pompey!
Up Pompey!
Up Pompey is a fantastic book where "a clueless American sportswriter bumbles through English football," although I believe that Chuck Culpepper is not quite so clueless as he might lead some to believe. I can't quite figure out, and I'm not through reading it yet, whether he's writing to an English audience and trying to prove the validity of "their sport" vs the inanity of "our" sport; or is he writing to an American audience and struggling to point out the superiority of football to American-football. Either way, and I believe however you feel about Associated Football vs American Football, the book is very well written and immensely enjoyable. I shall loan it to Terrill when he's done and look forward to the "Delusional Rant" that will be forthcoming. :-)
Cheers.

The Flower

   Posted by: krmb    in Daily

24 October 2007
Hump day. I woke up pretty early today. I suppose the result of late nights and early mornings for a week while in London. I’m not sure whether I like it or not. But, while my dear wife slumbered in her bed, I got the coffee made, fed the pets and took some photos. Marita Beth & Kelly (over at A Wee Bit of JeLLy) have always taken great “nature” shots. Partly because of the excellent macro settings on their camera. Now, I have a camera with a macro setting, too. I’m enjoying it.
Flower?
This is a flower of some sort. Marita Beth gets beautiful arrangements of flowers from John at both TRF & Bristol, so each week, we have these wonderful flowers in the house. On Wednesday, this one was in full bloom, and I liked the potential, so I grabbed a few close-ups. If anyone knows what kind of flower this is, I’d love to know. UPDATE: It’s a stargazer lily.
Cheers.

Pirateology

   Posted by: krmb    in Daily

30 September 2007
The final day of September, and although I never could recall that crazy little poem my wife so loves to quote, I’m well-aware of the day. We’re moving into my favourite time of the year, and even here in Texas, it starts getting cool enough to be bearable. I’m hoping that we had enough rain over the spring and early summer that we’ll actually have a fall-season. I’m hoping. Yesterday I had to make a quick trip back to Fry’s because the 2.5″ enclosure I bought was the wrong kind. I didn’t even know what a SATA connection was until I was face-to-face with one. I guess I had assumed that the PATA (ATA/IDE) connection would just continue to remain the standard. I was wrong. But, after figuring out exactly what I needed and returning the unneeded one, I headed back home to get it all set up. Painless, really, once the enclosure bit got sorted. Marita Beth now has all the bits & bobs she needed moved onto her new computer, and she has a built in portable back-up solution in the process. So, with that all done, it was time to teach her how to enter products into the inventory system within East Wind Games. Something that she is actually better suited to do than I, but didn’t know how to accomplish. Well, like all good things, it did not go as planned. She got to looking at the existing category (non) organization and went slightly crazy. The next several hours were spent with her organizing (thank goodness) the haphazard category system I had established, while I entered some new products into the freshly organized listings. So much better now. This picture
Pirateology
is one of the newly acquired items. It’s Pirateology, a fast-paced, enjoyable little card game. This version is the Splice version and comes in a little tin for easy transport. I needed to take some product photos, but it was too late, and I didn’t really want to drag out a light-box or anything, so I just played with Depth of Field photos. Certainly it won’t be included in the product catalogue.
Cheers.

038?

   Posted by: krmb    in Daily

28 September 2007
TGIF. Can it be said too many times? It was quite the week, but the week was over…finally. Knowing, this I slept in a little later than I had been and took a leisurely path to work. On the way, I stopped to take photos of yet another natural gas well. But, I decided on this one of the lock “protecting” the gate instead:
038?
Not that the images of the area aren’t worth the posting, I just liked this one best. I believe I’m becoming a fan of the close-up, the bokeh and extreme depth of field photo. Not that I can’t see the beauty in or even utilize other styles, I just think this is where my personal photographic journey is taking me.
Cheers.

Candle

   Posted by: krmb    in Daily

24 September 2007
Monday dawned and Marita Beth was still sick. Really sick, in fact. Neither of us got much sleep that night before (especially with that crazy dream about Paul – “I tried to help, but you know Paul, he’s really finicky. He didn’t like any of the meat I brought home.” – Like I said, weird.). So, what with sleep deprivation, worry over my wife (last time she was this sick, it was menangitis) and the upcoming training sessions, my day was every bit as surreal as Marita Beth’s day. To top it off, the photo I took,
candle
is the same subject as the photo she took. Weird.
Cheers
