Snow Covered Willow

   Posted by: crazyBobcat    in Daily

12 February 2010
Today, our world remains covered in beautiful white. Unfortunately, a very large percentage of our suburbia is without power. I worked from afar today, not willing to entrust my life to the bad driving habits of others on roads that are far more treacherous than normal. Luckily I have an extended battery on my computer and an air card, so my ability to do my job was not impeded in any way.

Floor Crew

   Posted by: crazyBobcat    in Daily

6 February 2010
It’s early Spring. And, in my life, early Spring means faire preparation. This year we started a tiny bit earlier than normal because we had more to do. And, frankly, it’s a damn good thing we did. What was suppose to be a 2-3 hour job as we replaced a small portion of floor that had rotted away became a full-day (10am to 11:30pm) event involving huge, unexpected expense and the toil of many wonderful friends. Two of those friends are in this photo and I can’t thank them enough. There is no way I can possibly thank this amazing crew of friends, my faire family, enough.
Destruction Crew
They came and freely gave of their time, their skill & their labour to replace the entire floor in my East Wind Games shop. All that remains now is to paint it.
Thank you each and every one!
Cheers.

Chaotic Neutral Monday and Laundry

   Posted by: krmb    in Daily

Laundry

18 May 2009

One more weekend of faire.  One more week to get ready for a faire weekend.  This is the last “Monday” of faire . . . next week we’re open on Memorial Day Monday, so the whole Monday thing happens on Tuesday.

Seven weekends in, and we’re exhausted—so this Monday was going to be hard for me, anyway.  Add to that, Kyle not feeling very well, and getting permission to work from home.  Not home sick, mind you — working from home.  So, I had to be mindful of his space and try to leave him alone.  That’s so hard for me.  When he’s with me, I want to be with him!  So, when he works from home I usually try to pretend he’s not really here. 😉

I love having Kyle at home, and if times stay tough, companies would be wise to encourage more of their folks who have jobs that can be performed from anywhere, to stay at home—saving energy in the office, saving the environment, and saving gasoline.  It translates to a higher quality of life for folks who would no longer have to fight traffic on their commute, and it represents a raise in pay for folks no longer having to spend so much on fuel and auto mainenance.  Happier employees all-around.  And, in an economic climate where pay increases are unheard of, and layoffs are a constant threat, it seems to me to be a no-brainer.  <sigh>

Today, it was harder to pretend Kyle wasn’t here, though.  I wasn’t feeling very good, either.  And, in fact, we spent much of the day in the same room—hard to ignore your beloved when he’s in the chair next to you!  I hope I didn’t distract too much.

I got a lot of work done—computer stuff, product orders, and laundry!  Never left the house, though, so the errands will have to happen tomorrow.  We got caught up on some TV watching in the evening—Desperate Housewives was a bit edgy—at least the season cliffhanger ending came after the life and death situation was resolved!

Today’s photo . . . the many colours of our laundry!  I’m not really proud of how messy the space looks, but I liked the colours.

Pencil Sharpener

   Posted by: krmb    in Daily

9 January 2009
I tend, when on vacation, to buy souvenirs for others not myself. I content myself with the informational booklets picked up at historic places, beer mats obtained at bars to satisfy my tegestological urges and photographs. However, in the gift shop of the Radisson Edwardian in London I saw a miniature red British phonebooth pencil sharpener.
Iconic
Long before Flickr was even a dream, and digital cameras were far from the norm, I took a trip to the U.K. On that trip, my photos were concentrated around this particular British icon. Since then, I have received British phone boxes in numerous forms from friends and family. I suppose I could almost be considered a collector of them. So, when I saw this utilitarian pencil sharpener, I just had to buy it for myself. Now, it sits on my desk next to my laptop.
Cheers.

Thumbdrive

   Posted by: krmb    in Daily

4 December 2008
I do my fair share of travelling and when I do travel, I travel with my laptop. In conjunction with that travelling comes work – both self-induced and thrust upon me. With that work comes the necessity for a sandbox in which I can develop willy-nilly. Thus today’s photo:
Thumbdrive
This is my Kensington 2GB thumbdrive that I have had for nearly 5 years. It lives on my carabiner keychain and goes with me everywhere my keys go (darn near everywhere). It has numerous important developing tools that I use on a nearly-daily basis and allows me, even when I have no internet connection to develop fully functional web applications and sites.
Cheers

Stack o'DVDs

   Posted by: krmb    in Daily

21 November 2008
Day of work followed by a long drive to TRF. Google maps says it’s 214 miles and takes 4 hours & 23 minutes. My odometer says it’s 208 miles, and it only takes 3 and 1/2 hours (not scientifically proven nor sound).
My plan this weekend was to be there, but not really there – I was going to work on websites all weekend. Because of that, I took a stack of favourite movies to watch
Stack o' Movies.
You know, movies you’ve seen so many times you don’t really have to watch, but that provide companionship & noise when you desire it? Those kinds of movies.
Cheers.

Handwriting on Graph Paper

   Posted by: krmb    in Daily

20 November 2008
Notes taken on a scrap of graph paper
Handwritten Notes
The day, like every other friggin’ day this week, was long, tedious and frustrating. But, like the good little drone bee that I am, I keep on doing my job to the best of my ability. After work, I stopped at Rob’s for a beer, played some pool then went home to my lovely wife where we spent a couple of hours together in the living room. She did some hand-sewing and kind of watched the telly while I completely tuned out my world and lived in the faux-spy world offered up by Chuck, then in the politically incorrect world of Bill Maher. I went to bed soon after that where I had completely dreamless sleep.
Cheers.

Lunch

   Posted by: krmb    in Daily

19 November 2008
The joys of a week full of Mondays. It seems like every day is a repeat of the frustrations of the previous day…and every one of them feels like a Monday.
The joy of the work day yesterday was my Breaded Pork & Mashed Potatoes I snagged from the cafeteria
Breaded Pork & Mashed Potatoes
and kicking ass at Wordpaths on Facebook. Such simple things.
After work, however, was happy hour & massive political discussions at Broncos with some very dear friends.
Cheers.

Bodice-making Bits

12 November 2008

After a very long bodice-making day, I let it go home with Brittney without taking a photo.  Arrrgh!

So, here on my table, are the remnants of the day—her brown cotton brocade, her golden wool, some ribbon, pins on a magnetic pin cushion, and the remote control for my TV.  Tomorrow I hope to fit in some dog-walking and house-cleaning between the sewing projects.

Panes for Larry

Panes for Larry

6 November 2008

I finally remembered to take the camera to the workshop!  And I’m glad I did, not just because Larry wants to see his fabric on the KRuMB, but because Artemis chose to come out and remind me when it was bedtime, and she was darned cute!

What I was originally setting out to photograph was the beginning of the panes-building for Larry’s new slops.  At the bottom of my photo is the one finished one.  I’d be done with all of them by now, except that I decided they needed beads.  <sigh>  I promise this is but the first of many photos of this project in progress.
